Title: REMOVING SPRINGS
Post by: Not Happy Jan on July 19, 2016, 03:33:55 PM
Hi All
What is the best way to remove your front springs if the front end is out of the car?
TIA
Nick

If you haven't got spring compressors you can loop some strong rope or cord around the upper and lower arms the remove the shocks and the upper king pin pivot and then slowly undo the rope. This should stop the spring from rapid recoil.

If your wooden fence is good and strong you can use a long board as a lever to compress the spring whilst a mate undoes the upper king pin bolt.
Then slowly release the tension.

I made my own spring compressor tool Nick.  I got a piece of threaded rod, proper fine threaded stuff from an engineering shop, not crap from the hardware shop. A few big washers and 4 nuts. Worked fine on 2 front ends before I stuffed the threads and had to make another for my next one.   Dave

LC LJ torana  are much more difficult . You have to weld a piece of tube on the end of your threaded rod to go at the top of the tower. Haydn

SO if you end up with a spring in your forehead you did it the wrong way  ;D

sing out i could get a set out of Marcs old front end and chop and powder coat and send up to you.
