Had a guy from the FB/EK car club come today for the diff,i told him i can't help him lift it out coz of my crook back,so he pulls the axles out, then the centre, lucky it's on the hoist,it's easier to catch the oil, anyway I get my $20 S/Cheap trolley to make it easier for him to cart the parts to his trailer when he spots some thing we both found strange, the centre is LSD,we checked and it's a 3,89,well I didn't know they exsisted nor did he [Daryl]he said he'd understand if I wanted to keep it,well I thought about it and said no it's yours buddy, but try and find me an LJ diff for the right price then we'll both be happy,he was even happy with the finned drums that came with it.I'm thinking they must of made a certain nmbr of these centres,or it's been made up,i do know it's a 1 owner car I bought from Bendigo around 14yrs ago,and the ladies Grandfather worked at Fishermans Bend. :-\

Interesting. Was it coarse or fine spline?

I'm guessing coarse spline, with the centre probably robbed from a HR or later vehicle. The LSD centres will bolt-up to the FE/FC coarse spline banjo axles, though need the red motor rear universal joint.

FE through to early HZ 6-cylinder engines were coarse spline axles (10 spline). Some other banjos (LJ XU-1, LH LX and HQ- HZ V8's and late HZ 6 cylinder) were fine spline (28 spline). Both course spline and fine spline LSDs were made.

Cheers,
Harv

Did the diff centre have U bolts or keyed flange mount ? i would say that they had it made up.

I have a FC LSD removed from a original car in the 80s with a broken pinion flange.
