Title: Temp Gauge Post by: Airfireman on March 20, 2016, 08:45:32 PM Gday all,
My FC has the oil pressure and amp gauge in the dash but not a temp gauge only the light. At what te,p does the light come on and is it too late by then?? Have other members fitted a temp gauge, if so where did you install and which type?? Thanks Tim Title: Re: Temp Gauge Post by: mcl1959 on March 20, 2016, 09:54:30 PM In original condition the radiator cap is 4 pound per square inch and the consequential boiling point of the engine is 217 F. This is when the switch is calibrated to go on.
As is common, the cap is changed for a 7 pound one and this raises the boiling temp to 226 F. If the temp switch is not updated to the later switch, then the temp light will come on at 217 and the engine will not be at boiling point. So, long answer to a short question - it is usually not too late if you stop the car immediately. The consequences of running with the temp light on are usually a cracked head. However, if you have the condition described above, then the car is not overheating at all. That said, if the light does come on it is an indication that the cooling system needs checking This is a pretty common problem. Different sensor reading??? I like the idea of fitting a gauge to check running temp Thanks Ken Tim |
