Yes that's one reason, new subframes were available from Holden for accident repair for many years into the sixties and still now the odd NOS one still turns up.
The other reason may be that you have an early FE subframe put on as a replacement. These have the subframe number over near the battery tray in smaller print. Have you checked there?

PT 58  ..  Are you leaning toward thinking the subframe may be original ?...check all the bolt heads, washers, nuts and attaching hardware, and if there seems they are all correct and appropriate to each other, and not a cobbled up mish-mash, the subframe may still be correct.

...you say it's a low numbered body...how low ?...as there would've been pre-production and pilot models getting around very early on....apparently these earliest vehicles had no chassis numbers ??

The Y frame was replaced prior to me owning it.

I entered the body number and chassis number into my computer and it indicates that the chassis number you have been given does not match the body number.
For a body number FC 2106 - 826M the chassis number should be about FC - 6000 M

Thanks Zulu for your reply and photos. Ken thanks also but isn't fc-6000-m a 59 ute I've be always told mind was a 58 being a low number 2106- 826-m and should start with a 8-xxxx-m thanks Peter.

Sorry, you’re right. I should have said 8-6000-M
Yours is an early Ute built into 1958, but all the other cars in my database indicate the number is wrong.
If you’re interested I can post numbers of other utes in this date area

These are utes around the same age as yours
FC - 2106 - 513 M  goes with 8 - 4489 M
FC - 2106 - 644 M  goes with 8 - 5343 M
FC - 2106 - 710 M  goes with 8 - 5740 M
FC - 2106 - 928 M  goes with 8 - 6977 M
FC - 2106 - 983 M  goes with 8 - 7247 M
FC - 2106 - 1017 M  goes with 8 - 7406 M
FC - 2106 - 1069 M  goes with 8 - 7768 M

You can see that as you get a large amount of vehicles in the database it is very easy to see patterns.
