Bzzzzzt!  Thanks for playing.  3 from 4hammers + 2 from Geoff = two chrome scratchies for the front doors and two frosted jobs for the back doors with a spare.

I don't think that was quite what Graham had in mind ;D

cheers

Bop Bong!!!!!!! ;D ;D
Sorry RET, you got it wrong. I have 2 chrome for the REAR doors & ONE frosted for the FRONT left door. May be an odd look, but that makes frsted front & chromed rear!! Could be a whole new look. :P

p.s. I didn't reply to the initial post, as I knew he was after a whole set.

That's cool, I appreciate it!!! ;)
It isn't often I get to take the piss out of our fearless leader, RET, so I jumped at the chance!! I am waiting for one of his witty replies.
Lets see what he comes up with, as he has been a bit quiet of late & I expect something good!
Regards & good humour,

Trev,

There are some with a frosted centre, and some with a bright-finished centre.  That's the difference that is being squabbled over ::)

Rob,

I stand corrected, smart-arse.  Just for that I'm going to up the post-count to achieve Guru status to oh, about 930 :P

cheers

???Excuse my ignorance but don't the scratch plates have individual sides imprinted on the little tags - eg
RR (right rear) RF (right front) etc or do we just attach them to whatever door we want with a little persuasion - say a sledge hammer :o :o ;D ;DJust joking Joyce. ;) ;) :D ::) ::)

Hi.
No, they are not stainless steel, they are chrome plated. That is sometime why they bubble up & pit. The etched ones are a real turd to rechrome, as the etching is done after the initial chroming.
Correct, they all have their own door. i.e. LF, RF, RR & LR
They look very poxy if they are on the wrong doors.

RET,
Smart arse?? I was hoping for one of your "Special" words as an insult. I like it when I have to look it up in a Dictionary to see if I am having the piss taken out of me ;)

All scratch plates are chrome plated brass, some repro scratch plates have been made which were stainless but they are generally of a poorer quality.  As pointed out the frosted ones are etched or blasted somehow to achieve the frosted look after chroming.  It has been suggested that the frosted plates were early (maybe FE/FC) and the smooth ones later(FB/EK)
GMH were always on the lookout for ways to make things cheaper and I would think that the frosting would have been an extra process and therefore more expensive and the logical progression would have been to supersede them with the smooth ones.
Conversely it would seem illogical to make the scratch plates more expensive when moving to FB, as this was the time of the credit squeeze and times were tough.  Even the hubcaps on the FB got the cheaper treatment.
After much criticism, this decision was reversed on EK
