Title: Driving from Sydney to Surfers Post by: surferboy on August 10, 2015, 11:40:39 PM Can those with experience let me know their thoughts on the road trip from Sydney to Surfers Paradise
My map shows 850km+ approx. 10 hours There's NO WAY I would think about doing it in one hit Is it a rush to fit it in to a two day trip ? or should I go slow over 3 days ? Not stopping for sight seeing (except maybe Byron Bay) it's all about putting a new line on my map ;D ::) But I don't want to push any fatigue boundaries either any recommendations for accomodation any advice appreciated 8) 8) 8) Title: Re: Driving from Sydney to Surfers Post by: RET on August 11, 2015, 08:26:02 AM Once you get onto the freeway at Hornsby, I don't think you'll go through another town until you get to Macksville - unless you choose to turn off to do so. I recently drove to Brisbane and back over two days (not something I would recommend), and would suggest that two days is more than sufficient if you're not planning on sightseeing. Coffs Harbour would break the back of the trip, and give you more time on the leg that's got a few more towns etc.

Byron is only a bit over an hour from Surfers. So a stop at Coffs would be about 6 to 6 1/2 hrs from Sydney. Plenty of places to stay at Coffs, and some nice places to eat down on the jetty. If you wanted to get of the hi way a bit and have a look around give me a yell, always welcome in Casino. Dave

Flying into Sydney airport check in to an overnight hotel somewhere need to pick up wagon in Villawood have a good nights sleep then travel north to Surfers What's the best location to stay overnight ? Was thinking Parrammatta ? (It's on a train line....... $130 taxi fare from airport is scarey) and what is traffic like heading north ? ( I keep reading horror stories of Sydney traffic :o) Do I need to hit the road at 5.ooAM or stay in bed till 10 ;D Any better suggestions will be appreciated Ta Surferboy & Cathy 8) 8) 8) Title: Re: Driving from Sydney to Surfers Post by: fcwrangler on October 02, 2015, 03:39:25 PM Another option could be to catch a train from the airport and stay somewhere close to Villawood ie. Bankstown, Liverpool or any of the suburbs along the rail line. Would be a lot cheaper than a taxi, you could also look into airport shuttle services as well.

From Sydney Airport, train to Central Railway, change trains for a train to Chester Hill or Villawood if you are picking up your ride that day. Taxi to Rydges Bass Hill (874 Hume H/Way) Get onto Henry Lawson Drive heading south and turn right onto the M5, take them M7 off ramp continue onto the M2, turn left onto Pennant Hills Road then right onto M1 near Wahroonga. The M5, M7 & M2 skirt around the outside of Sydney. The M7 & M2 become a bit of a carpark after about 7 am during the week. There are tolls which you will have to pay over the phone, the number is sign posted of the toll ways. The tolls are a bit further in miles but a lot quicker in time and becomes a very easy drive.
