Title: Brake Drum Post by: fink on March 27, 2015, 09:26:00 AM Changing brake shoes,w/cyls and b/drums over the years I've noticed that some b/drums have a small 20m horshoe shaped[sortov]shaped hole about 50m from the centre ???I can't see it being used for levridge to remove the drum, maybe for dispersing heat[I dunno]I'd just like to know, thanks Gaz! :-\

The horseshoe-shaped cutout was to locate the drum in one position only on the hub: The tang was bent inwards a little, and there was a counterbore on the flange of the hub, in which the tang would locate. This arrangement was more common at about the HR stage - the family's HR had these tangs on the drums. Our EK had green paint around one of the stud holes, to match green paint on the end of one wheel stud. I don't know what the system was for the FEs and FCs as an aid to correct location.
