I use the verniers for just about anything but I do like the micrometer best for measuring the outside diameter of something critical. I find it easier to get a micrometer to sit square on a shaft, so that gives me the best chance of taking an accurate reading. My eyesight isn't as good as it was so digital is handy to read the scale without the need for bright light or magnification.
