Les Title: Re: Front spring shims Post by: hsv-001 on May 23, 2014, 07:49:36 PM When I was building front ends we just used one on the top of each [hold them on with tape while you put them in ] they are only to stop the noise when the springs move .The problem is that a lot of after market springs are pig tailed both ends and although they fit well on the lower control arm they wear in the spring tower[the original ones taper at the top] . On my torana front end in my Vauxhall I bought a set of inch lowered heavy duty and then carved a set of commodore rear coil rubbers and put them in rather than the shims because they already have a stepped cross section and I didn't need the lower springs .Haydn

In the FE workshop manual it says " Rubber insulators are assembled between the upper end of the spring and the crossmember to reduce road noises. When required, one or more steel shims may be located between the spring and rubber insulator on the R.H. ( Driver's) side only, to even the trim of the vehicle. Hope this is what you were after.
