Title: Roof dent. From visor Post by: surferboy on May 02, 2014, 04:11:59 PM Sitting at O'brians Windscreens having broken windscreen replaced and found the roof has been dented and cracked where visor bolts in.
Guessing from the visor flexing when driving across Nullabor. Never had this problem on previous trips. I don't know whats changed since it was rebuilt 2 years ago. Whats involved in fixing it ? Might ring Shannons and see if it' s covered by insurance (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/02/3uvehuda.jpg) (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/02/9e7usaza.jpg) Surferboy Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk Title: Re: Roof dent. From visor Post by: ridgey_didge on May 02, 2014, 04:20:16 PM GP had the same happen on his FC I think on the way home from Perth. I'm sure he can tell you what you need to do - and it involves a respray of the roof.
I'm glad you're home safe, but a shame to see that sort of damage. Cheers David Title: Re: Roof dent. From visor Post by: FCRB26 on May 02, 2014, 04:22:46 PM it will need the end of the crack drilling to stop it going further and tig weld it up.
Its caused by the flex of the visor stressing the metal. Title: Re: Re: Roof dent. From visor Post by: surferboy on May 02, 2014, 04:47:44 PM Visor is off

Pretty easy fix do not let anyone mig weld it up with the roof liner in. could be done with a tig but i think i would still want to pull the hood liner out in the front just to make sure no sparks start a fire. Title: Re: Roof dent. From visor Post by: surferboy on May 02, 2014, 11:03:54 PM I had the nutserts put in a few years ago. There was 3 then.
It most likely will not be covered by insurance (Shannons) as it isn't accident damage just wear and tear I've left the visor off for now and will put a gaffa tape dragstripe on the roof temporarily and have been given a couple of local restoration panelbeater reccomendations from Shannons I will visit on Monday Is there any way of reinforcing this area ? I did 5 previous Nullabor crossings with NO signs of any damage 8) 8) 8) Title: Re: Roof dent. From visor Post by: DJ on May 03, 2014, 12:34:15 AM Pete will know the best way to reinforced it but after seeing your misfortune I'm now thinking about using a wide sheet metal plate under the centre point to anchor to. Perhaps it would have been fine without the windscreen breaking; if it normally restricts visor movement (leading to metal fatigue) then maybe the need for both repairs can be considered related by Shannons.
Good luck with it. Hope it didn't distract too much from what looked like a great trip. Title: Re: Roof dent. From visor Post by: FCRB26 on May 03, 2014, 06:27:27 AM If you are near the person who gave your car a birthday he would be one i would be talking to about fixing it..
Its a hard one as you can stiffen under it with a plate but if you stiffen it to much the problem will shift elsewhere probably to the edge of the plate, I would be inclined to weld the crack and holes up with a tig and start again maybe use 4mm knurled, 1st grip nutserts. They are both after market sun visors ,either the expanded aluminium type to let the wind blow through or as I had an after market type with a pressed pattern around the perimeter [coolride or coolair] cant remember.
