Title: Type of rim the will fit standard fe
Post by: Plum57 on April 30, 2014, 11:09:54 AM
Hi.

I have standard rims fitted but would like the option to change wheels.   Still will keep the stock rims.  Thinking  about buying some drag ways.   Can someone tell me  if 13 x 7 rim.  5 x 108 stud pattern will fit the standard fe drum brake .   Or am I going to have clearance issues with the 7 inch rim regardless of the tyre profile.

If you are running standard front and rear end then 7x13 will work fine .I run hr 7x13 with hr axles and sometimes have scrubbing issues when over loaded . I sometimes regret not going 6x13 then I wouldn't have clearance issues and would have the option of different profile tyres and whitewalls. Just my thoughts .Cheers Haydn

If you leave it stock height you will run OK most of the time. Loaded with luggage or with people in the back as Haydn suggests will cause grief at the rear, and backing out of driveways on full lock will cause grief at the front.
If you lower the car it will cause grief nearly every bump you hit and every corner you go round when a bit of body roll is involved.
13 x 6 dragways are the best for FE and FC
13 x 7 work better on HD HR
My FE had HR rear and HR front with Torana brakes (makes track slightly wider than stock HR). The car was lowered 2 inch at the back and 2.5 inch at the front.
I ran 13 x 6 steel wheels so had no clearance issues at all at the back even when fully loaded. The front guards had rolled lips and sometimes would just catch the tyre if I backed out of a drive very quickly.

Thanks ken and Haydn for your replies.   Won't take the chance on 13 x 7 and will look for the 13 x 6 rim save the hassle.    Cheers.  Peter
