Title: Windowless Van TAGS
Post by: slim on June 15, 2003, 09:43:31 AM
I Know the Fc Panelvans come out of the factory Windowless , Rear and sides. And the ones with glass in the rear had a number on the compliance tag  with 333 stamped into it, meaning that it left the factory with rear glass, Can anyone tell me the Code on the compliance Tag for a Factory Blind Panelvan , ie No windows.  Any help much appreciated.

Hey Slim.
I thought that all panelvans came out of the factory with no windows in the side (door windows excluded), and that the 333 code meant that it had glass fitted to the upper tailgate on the production line. Vans with windows had them put in post production at one of many conversion businesses such as Canopy Industries, Bailey's etc.
I could be wrong about this, and would be interested to hear what the Guru's have to say about it.
Regards
Alex

So does this mean ALL Vans , have 333  on the TAGS. Regardless of windows or not .

Slim.
The code "333" means the van was optioned with a rear tailgate window. It is commonly referred to as a "Delete Option". Like the bonnet bord on the FC's. If the van came from the factory & was required without a rear tailgate window. There was no code stamped.

So out there somewhere are VAN tags for a van with NO windows At all, without the 333 stamped into it , Is this correct . Because if so , Id like to try and acquire a set for the van I recently acquired. Want to restore it as a Genuine Blind Van , HENCE No 333 on the tags. Or else Ill have to panelbeat the original one. Would that be ILLEGAL or what ?

Yep,
That's right Slim! They're out there. In my travels, looking for bits & pieces, I have come across 3 more Postie vans (2104S10), BUT, they were not FE or FC. There was 1 FB & 2 EK's. I have also found another FB Army ute (2106S8). I have gotten into the habit of lifting EVERY bonnet on an early that I find. Anything from FX up to EH. You will be surprised what you find.
One of the panelvans is being used to carry old craypots back to the fishermans shed. I give the car another 12 months, then the rust will destroy it. But hey, I will grab those plates, as he will NOT sell the van.
Regards & goodluck,

Slim - yes I have a few recorded van tags with no 333 on them. THis means they left the factory with no windows.

I cant see it as being illegal to remove the 333.  Who would know anyway.

A guy in our club is doing just that - his van will be at the next nats in Jindabyne for sure he reckons.

Slim,

I don't think you'd have much success banging the numbers out of the plate (as was alluded to elsewhere in this thread or the other).

Is the plate painted along with the firewall?  If so, why not fill the 333 with bog and paint over it?  Then the vehicle's ID tag will still be correct for the car.

Since the NSW RTA use the chassis number and not the ID tag as the VIN, it's probably not illegal to change the ID tag.  But even so, if you're lucky enough to find a tag without the rear window option on it, the chances of it having the same external colour codes as your van are slim indeed (so to speak ;))  So to the expert, it still won't look original, it will look like a grey (for example) van that's been painted blue.  And it definitely will no longer match the chassis number and engine number (assuming your van has the original items, I'm not sure).

Just my 2c worth, so I'll give you $9.98 for that boot spring when I see you ;D

cheers

Sorry Slim I no longer have any of the tags without 333 on them.
Just fill over the 333 on your tage and paint the plate on the firewall as is done in Vic.  You will have no joy trying to beat the numbers out and have a shiny metal plate.

My Vans colour is 2051 Skyline blue , So its correct colour for tag on it , guess Ill just have to  keep looking till I come across one , but as ret suggest , how lucky would I have to be to get a tag with paint code 2051 and no 333 .  Oh well its just a thought >
