The Nullabour is very lush and greener the when we came back from for the Orange nationals.
The only wild life we have seen have been a couple of foxes just before Penong. (http://s7.postimg.org/knyt77y6v/IMG_0047_Copy.jpg) ($2) (http://s28.postimg.org/xdoqki1pl/IMG_0064.jpg) ($2) Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: surferboy on March 30, 2014, 11:35:42 PM Hey Les
You should have thrown out a tow rope at Merredin John & Bette are in Coolgardie with the FE overheating :'( Had it serviced yesterday with new coolant added Hoping it's something simple and doesn't need to go to Kalgoorlie for repairs on the first day of their adventure 8) 8) 8) Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 01, 2014, 08:43:20 AM I left my tow rope home feeling very confident, We are on our way to deep dark South Australia and hoping to make Victoria tonight. current milage 88172 and into our 4th day and feeling we are making good time, not to many creeks or groans from the car.
We met up with a gent from one of the local car clubs in Ceduna, and spent some time looking at his toys, Then back on the road again. There are more photo's on my face book page Les. We haven't seen the sun since we left W.A. Its good to be out of those Nullabour Flies
The FE is Having a well earned rest, I will add up the speedo miles when we get to Hobart. Les Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 07, 2014, 09:39:27 PM All,
Currently driving around Tasmania sight seeing, Last weeks lesson was Melbourne traffic, This week it is tight bends, steep uphill and steep downhill, Makes the Darling range look tame. So far we have been to Stanley and down the west coast through to Queenstown. The speedo turned over 88888 yesterday. Les Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: RET on April 07, 2014, 10:33:53 PM You must be going around the opposite way to us. We were in Strahan last night, Queenstown the night before. We're currently in Somerset. (We're travelling in a VW 'Cruisin' motorhome at the moment. My entry number plate from the Orange Nats is in the window, on the off-chance we see any other FE-FC Holden travellers.)
cheers RET Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 09, 2014, 09:08:44 PM I am having trouble posting photos, it comes up with the message that I am over the band width.
What am I doing wrong? Everyone else seems to be able to put plenty up and the W.A. I.T. guru's can't help me. Les Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 11, 2014, 09:33:08 PM Today we have travelled from Beauty point to St Helens on the East coast, We had more hair pin bends and big hills, even had to use low gear once, 65 mph and in a straight line with no trees on the Nullabour seems so long ago.
FE_UTE had some carby problems today, with some help from RACT is back on the road again. We saw a NSW licenced FE Special parked in Scottsdale so I would say he is also on his way to the Nats also. Still can't upload photos for some reason Les Title: Re: Post by: surferboy on April 11, 2014, 10:50:26 PM We have I.T. gurus ?

Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 12, 2014, 03:46:37 PM A lap top and telstra wi-fi.
Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: DJ on April 12, 2014, 05:46:06 PM There's a problem for a start - Telstra.
Could be that the photos are too large to send. User bandwidth per message may be limited by settings for the Wi Fi account, or your Telstra account limit has been reached. Perhaps try reducing the size of the photos or try sending one at a time (if you are not already doing this). Could just be a poor WiFi spot too, hope so. Otherwise, could be a long night getting a definitive answer waiting on Telstra's help desk. 125 8880 option 2 then option 2 again. Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 25, 2014, 08:23:37 PM Stopped in Warrnambool, Today has been interesting , changed the water pump and it went a little to well.
Then we found anouther noise and blamed the generator mistakenly. We tracked down the noise and found the harmonic balancer pully loose. Poor Leo's FC is now missing not only the waterpump but also the harmonic balancer. I am very lucky Leo is towing his car home. The FE doesn't like Victoria all of its major break downs have been in Victoria, last time was a timing gear in Murrayville in 2010. Lucky I took the harmonic balancer puller. Hope Our Luck Doesn't End Now Les Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on April 27, 2014, 08:28:59 PM Since last report I have changed a rear uni joint, Tonight we are in Port pirie with no new strange noises to report.
Les Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: JohnBM on April 27, 2014, 11:09:30 PM Hope the rest of your trip is uneventful. We're snug at home after a dream run right through at 80-85 kms an hour (although the car has been rained on here in WA.)
John & Bette Title: Re: Eaton Fe Departing for the Nationals Post by: Eaton_FE on May 01, 2014, 10:24:29 AM Our next stop was Penola, and just to keep on the same theme we changed the rear uni joint at Penola (we picked up the uni at MT Gambier, the parts man wanted to know what Commodore was the FE)
Next stop was Port Pirie with no repairs just check oils and water and move on to Ceduna 559 km away. We departed Ceduna early in the morning stopping at Nullabour roadhouse for morning tea, car looking a little sagged on one side sure enough flat rear left hand tyre, a quick unpack and tyre change and off we go again. Arriving at the border at at 1130 and a time change. We try-ed a couple of places for tyre repairs but for all sorts of reasons ended up with it fixed at Cocklebiddy and off we go aiming to spend the night at Balladonia which we did. 983 kms travelled for the day. We departed Balladonia at just before sunrise and made our way to Norseman, Coolgardie, Southern cross then turned off at Merredin aiming to stop in Narrogin or Williams for the night, For the first time in 5 weeks we couldn't find anywhere to to stay. We travelled the last leg of our journey in the dark relying on our trusty globe headlights ??? to get us through the state forrest into Collie and then onto Eaton to arrive home last night at 2115 hrs. Starting miles 86509 Finishing miles 92679 Total miles travelled 1075 Casualties 2 flat tyres, 1 water pump, 1 Harmonic balancer, 1 rear uni joint, 1 rattle in drivers side front door, 1 rattle in dash area and 2 sore bums from long hours ;) |
