Title: Uplifting Spring Rubbers
Post by: graham_fuller on March 18, 2014, 03:47:26 PM
Hi Guys does anyone know where I would buy new uplifting spring rubbers? They are about 50mm diameter and about 25-30mm thick with a 5/16 hole in the middle.
Cheers,
Graham

G'day Graham

Maybe you could take the old ones to Clark Rubber, if they have something suitable you may be able to remake them?

Would a couple of layers of quarry conveyer belting do the trick? It's tough stuff & the holes can be punched easily.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought of Clark's, DJ I hadn't thought of that would more than likely work. I thought of possibly cutting spring saddle rubbers in half and trying to make that work. Do you guys know if they are fairly solid?
Cheers,
Graham

I have some conveyer belt rubber that I use for my windscreen rack, works a treat. Let me know if you need some, I can drop it in at work if you like.

Have you thought about rear bump stop rubbers? you may be able to adapt them to fit.

What about ute/van bump stops from the rear bumpers.
I would suggest you try a caravan place.

Back in the day we used rubber door stops [the ones that screw down to wooden floors] as bumperette rubbers .But for what you want you could look toward ringing someone like Fulcrum suspension .If they cant find you something close they could probably make it at their factory . If you are not worried about originality I would use commodore strut rubbers [nylothane ] or HQ-HZ LH-UC lower control arm bump stops as they have a bolt that will go through the holes .Just a few thoughts .Cheers Haydn

Yeah, if they are the same as mine they are a larger diameter than the bump stops or door stops, around 70mm and as Graham says about around 25mm thick

To clarify ,is this what you are looking for ? I've always known them as helper springs as I'm sure they are only used when extra load is placed on the suspension . When I got my van from the original owner it had too many springs under it ,so I took these and most of the springs out [think I have 5 per side now] . To stiffen the rearend you can find another set of springs and mix and match leaves ,or just cut the top leaf at the eyes and use it in your spring pack .
