Title: A New Years challenge
Post by: mcl1959 on January 18, 2014, 11:43:12 AM
A challenge to tax the minds of those who know FE and FC well..

What are these clips from?

(http://s24.postimg.org/6cd9sqdyp/image.jpg) ($2)

Only clue I will give is that they are a stand alone part with their own part number, so they are not taken from a larger assembly.

I will give the answer (unless someone gets it) when I get back home from holidays.

Ken

No - thats why I put the 10 cent coin in - that clip is approximately twice the size of the one shown.
Good guess though!

No you haven't. I will tell you that these clips are very rarely seen and even on the most stock of stockies - they wont be there.
They will be missing......  :o

Rocker shaft clips are larger and there are four of them about the size of a 50cent coin.

No to clutch line clips

No to wiper arm clips

No to rocker shaft clips

No to wiper link to wiper motor clips

All good guesses, maybe I should get pictures of all the guesses so far and compare them to the challenge. I will when I get back.     :)

They look like the retainers at the ends of the rocker gear . Although they look smaller beside the coin.

They do look very like rocker retainers, but about half the size.

This is a tough challenge :P

I think it's the clip that holds the accelerator pump plunger in the carbi.
Cheers,

Brake drum retaining clips 8) where do i collect my prize?  ;D

No to plunger pump retainer clip.  Surferboy, would I mess with you? :-*

It's definitely an FE FC part - all will be revealed in due course.

I'm guessing that Graham Pryce's FC, Julius's FE and even Graham Fuller's FE are missing these. (though I've never checked)
I know none of the stockies I built had these clips - I only found these a few years ago on a very low mileage car that I wrecked (it was totally rusted out) and this led me to discovering their existence.

It's not an easy challenge.

So the wash up to the challenge - part number is 7409454 in section 5.810 - Brake drum spring clip
The book lists 12 being fitted originally (3 per wheel)
I assume that since they served no practical purpose once the car was running (they held the brake drum in place during the car's assembly when there were no wheels on it), then they were discarded the first time the brakes were serviced.
I have only seen a very few of these - anybody actually have some of these on their car?

Ken

Hey Ken,
NOT FAIR :D
My parts book doesn't have part number 7409454 in the index.
Nor does it have section 5.810, jumping straight from 5.809 to 5.812.
NOT FAIR    boohoohoo. I'm gunna tell MUM.  :'(

Cheers & bring 'em on.
Prof.
