Title: What's Biggest rubber under the rear end
Post by: john253a on January 05, 2014, 05:58:42 PM
What's the biggest rubber anyone's fitted in the rear end with factory spring location and tubs

No tubs I'm 225/50r15 and I only rub on big bumps with 1 or passages in the back

OK, this is where I get into difficulty working out the offset required for such a combination.
And, what of the gear ratio?
Is that big bump class 'Qld outback' or 'metro motorway'?

If seen a few with 245 and tubs
Just not sure if that running factory spring location or not
I knew yours where big Pete but you not exactly running a bolt in modified rear end
Would love some 275 as they are big enough to look tuff and cheap enough being one of the main stream sizes

I just don't want to put a tonn of time and effort just to go 235 or 245

I have run 235s on 14" rims with factory tubs and un-rolled lips, with some scrubbing on the inner tubs on steep driveways.

Out of curiosity, how low is your car, Glenn?

Not sure exactly, rear springs have reversed eyes and are lowered and I think lowering blocks too, front has drop spindles and standard springs.

Pretty sure they are 235/60 R14

With the search function and google at my side
If found a few that have tubed out to the factory rails and lipped the guard and found 275 fit but rub
And 245 is the biggest most have got engineered
But in unable to find the height that the tyres have been or they amount the car is lowered

Still interested to see what people have been able to fit

I am running the same width but lower profile
225/50 15
23.85" high 8.85" wide
225/60 15
25.62" high 8.85" wide

And have stock wheel wells
stock everything
With 2" lowering blocks and 15x6

And I rub/ scrub when I hit certain bumps with passengers
What I'm after is for me to weigh up is the time and effort worth the outcome of tubbing the rear end
I know the look I'm after and idd love 275 under the ass witch is my goal
And I can except that, that is not a reality without some major chassis work, so just trying to see what has fitted with tubs out to rails

Yep that rail will be a pain in the arse not to mention the boot spring off the well too

Tub it to the original chassis, you should get 265. I did it on my ute

I shortened my diff and got it to within a mm on both sides of the wheel being in the same location on both sides. I can get a Mickey Thompson et 245 60 15 under without scrubbing, but for a regular street tyre I have opted for the Mickey Thompson 235 street radial.
I hope this helps

For what its worth. .. I have mini tubbed the inners  back to flush with the chassis rails and the outer guards have rolled lips.. I have just ordered 18"x9" rear rims with a backspace of 6.25" diff is to hr width I think... should be good for about a 255/40R18..

My daily FC sedan  has 245 50 14's tucked under the rear end on 14x8 steelies.  No rubbing, inner guards 'stretched' with a big hammer, outer guards have had a small pump, it is what i would consider very low for stock spring setup. Tyres are tucked under guards.
