The originals are dished or concave and follow the rim profile very closely. Also the originals are only about 4cm wide.

Yes, they were listed with a set of 8" chrome rims that I suspected were off an SLR 5000 originally and fitted to an HD. The dress rims were thought to be much older (FE/FC) and stainless. It confused me but I think your GTR theory is right. I have the standard 13" rims at the moment painted the same as the body, so I thought some dress rims may have set it off nicely. Wide wheels remind me of an HR I had around 40 years ago with 10" flat rubber on the back & 8" on the front - less than ideal on Canberra roads in the wet, but a whole lotta fun. Running 5x108 early holden stud pattern on my Vauxhall and have limited offsets to choose from .They must be 14" or 15" to fit the wheel arches and the wheel track is quite narrow so 14" x6" HK,HT,HG or Volvo . 1930's 40's and 50's English car manufacturers would often use wheel rims from other makers and fasten their hubcaps by placement of three lugs . If you do this with three small cuphead bolts you can put many hubcaps on many different rims .It looks best with wider rims and dress rims. I have put Vauxhall hubcaps on HK holden rims ,14"and 15" Volvo 13" holden and FC,FE hubcaps on HK holden and Volvo . This could be done for example when using commodore , chev ,Toyota or ford stud pattern wheels and retain original hubcaps .Cheers Haydn
