Ken Title: Re: Clutch Fork Return Spring Post by: hsv-001 on December 12, 2013, 09:36:57 AM Ken ,the workshop manual makes no mention of a return spring and I have been told that FE FC did not run one .When I was a teenager my slave cylinder spat its guts on the Pacific Highway . This can be caused by using a drum brake master cylinder and not taking the anti-return valve out of it ,or in my case an old perished flexi hose . Anyway I'm getting off track .A return spring from that day forward was standard equipment . In the Gregory's manual it refers to a return spring EJ-HR models but the slave cylinder is totally different . I usually put a 1/8 drill through low on the bracket above the gearbox mount and get a spring from the hardware store . Keep in mind that this will totally emty your slave cylinder every time you release the clutch so your push-rod will need to be adjusted to suit . Cheers Haydn
Title: Re: Clutch Fork Return Spring Post by: mcl1959 on December 12, 2013, 05:06:05 PM The spring hooks round the protrusion on the slave cylinder and the other end goes through the second hole in the clutch fork. there is a slot next to the hole. you put the end of the spring through the slot and then locate the end of the spring in the hole. See page 187 of workshop manual. you can see the spring installed on page 180. The first hole is for the dust cover retaining spring on the clutch fork.
The part number is 7410218. It is a special shaped spring as a normal spring tends to pull the boot off the slave cylinder during operation. Having said all that... I don't have one but one should be obtainable easily enough from a wreck or from someone replacing their grey engine for later equipment. Its been a long time since I fitted this standard equipment but that's no excuse . Haydn

The mechanic who was going to do the work for me proved less than satisfactory so I got the engine back with lots of the parts in boxes. Unfortunately this spring is definitely missing. The hunt goes on.
