Title: Fuel system issue
Post by: Plum57 on November 16, 2013, 11:19:32 AM
Hi

My FE ....Car ticking over but not firing.
Trying to isolate not starting.   Poured fuel in the carby and the car would fire but not start.

Did the check the points in the Dizzy and cleared the fuel in the fuel pump…but it would not refill.
Pulled the carby off ..will get it re furbished...as it gets hard to start after sitting for a week.

Pulled off the Fuel Pump and found it to be blocked fuel line leading to Pump....lucky I took the rubber braided hose bit off which connects to the steel fuel line.  This was gummed up.  Not sure what this is?
Before i put it back on ...How do I know if the Fuel pump is not doing the job ?   What can I check for ?

Thanks for any info
Peter

If I have a problem like this with a single barrel down draft strommy I disconnect the fuel line before the pump then remove the top of the carby .I fill the carby with fuel and start the car . If the car runs properly then its a fuel line or pump issue .If this is the case then I would remove the line between the carby and the pump and the fuel tank and the pump and use compressed air to clear the lines . Then If there is a blockage the tank needs cleaning . Just make sure you are using quality fuel grade hoses .

My guess is the braided hose needs replacing ;)

Thanks hsvo1 and ACE.   I am pretty fussy so the braided line will go and be replaced.    I will work on troubleshooting the pump as suggested. &  Check the fuel line back ...
