Title: My Fc wagon
Post by: Skuta on September 25, 2013, 04:21:12 AM
Hi all. I'm proud to say I have finally been allowed to buy my "old holden wagon" I didn't care what it was as long as it fit the below criteria.

Had to be a Holden
Had to be a wagon
Had to be between fe and hq.

This isn't my first holden though. Oh no sireee bob. I had a hb torana when I was 17. Don't laugh.

I'm more of a motorbike fella but for a long time now I've wanted something that the whole family can enjoy.

So my wife was on Facebook the other day and yelled out "how much do you want to spend on one of these old cars?" so I had a look at what she was talking about and that's why I'm here now.

Mechanically it's awesome. With a 179, auto, eh front end etc. And the body is in great shape too.

If there's anyone around the Toowoomba area that I can chat to I'd like to hear from you. This is my first car project since I was a teenager (nearly 40 now) so I could do with some guidance.

Yeah mate , I can probably help with some  ideas . I'm not in the neighbourhood but south-west of Brissy. My dad lives up that way so I'm up there quite a bit now. Sounds like we grew up in the same era. I also had a HB Torana as one of my first cars also ap5 valiant ,ej holden,ht fb,ek,lj torana but I always kept at least 1 FC or FE Holden for the last 35 years anyway. Cheers

This is great to know where it came from. Thanks fatboy for replying. And thanks for the mods. It was advertised with no details so the upgrades have been a bonus.

Welcome Skuta, nice wagon. I'm a bike man myself, what are you currently riding? I know a few of the bike boys up that way, mainly FJR riders.

Nice Monkey bikes  :)

If you're into the little Zeddys, I've got a mate Kye who you might know or have crossed paths with in Brisbane who is fairly active in the Z scene.

I've got a Triumph Tiger 1050, and KTM400 for my 2 wheeled antics.

Thought it was your old wagon Fatboy.

Cheers

Ed

I totaled my 2008 FJR about 2 months ago on the Killarney gap Road between Narrabri and Bingara. Wasn't doing a big speed but hit a heap of loose gravel on a hairpin bend and the bike went from under me and then high sided. I Rode the bugger 800+kms home the next day but Shannons wrote it off because the frame was damaged. I replaced it with an ST1300, more touring oriented. I thought it was about time I slowed down a bit.

Skuta,

We met up with Kye 2 weeks ago in Armidale..  A group of us rode up from Sydney while him and another mate rode down from Brissy. Top weekend, great roads and good company and set to become and annual run.. set aside the 2nd weekend in September!

JWM, good to see you're ok...The ST would get along quite Ok too.

Cheers

Ed

Bit of an update,

Ive spent almost every spare moment on the wagon since I got it. I swapped out the 350 holley for a 32/36 weber man was that an ordeal with the kickdown cable for the t700, I made a bellcrank setup that took about 3 full weekends to refine. Snicked the paint back, put all the chrome back on, carpeted and hundreds of other minor little touches.

Last week I got some jellybeans like in the picture below (always wanted a set) they're 13 x 7 but unfortunately you can't have everything, because it's lowered they are just too tight and rubbing on the guards (mainly the rear) so I'm on the hunt for another set with less offset, maybe 13 x 5.5 or 6.

If anybody has anything available in the se queensland region, please shoot me a pm. I'll post in the wanted section too.

Now with dragway indys.

(http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu318/esmaeguzzi/IMAG0110_zpsd857a3c7.jpg) ($2)

(http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu318/esmaeguzzi/IMAG0112_zpsc27db958.jpg) ($2)

Kind of ruins the style that fatboy was going with, which I really loved but I like shiny things too, and just a decade or more too modern, still looks pretty good and they clear the guards perfectly. Did I mention I like shiny things

For reference for future people with the same problems.

I have a HR front end and diff (I think it's a hr diff anyway) and my FC is lowered

I searched high and low for wheels with clearance, the jelly beans I had were 105mm from the bolt up face to the outside lip of the rim.

I found a guy with a few sets of mags he took off his torana, the measurement from the bolt up face to the lip of the rim is 80-85mm

my jellys were 7" with 185 tyres (195 is the recomended minimum) and they were scraping the front and rear guard lip on the outside.

The dragways  are also 7" but with 225's they dont scrape (they actually only miss the rear guard lip by about 1-2mm) and they clear the top balljoint by about 5mm phew!!

This guy still has a nice set of 6 spoke jelly beans with the same offset if anyone wants them $400 with tyres
