Hi Trev, I have a parcel shelf that I removed from an EK & also 1 from an FC, the EK one is longer, but apart from that they appear identical.

My parcel shelf on my FC ute is quite long, sort of runs to the edge of the trans tunnel. Is that correct?

Hi Croc.
It should run right under where the radio (or the delete panel) is. The end is closer to the drivers side than the passenger side (If you get what I mean).

If thats the case how can you fit a Smiths heater or similar on the trans tunnel?????

Here's a picture of a heater and parcel tray fitted to Brett Gillard's lovely FC Special.

Hi Croc.
To answer your question regarding the Smiths heater. You Don't!!
Have a close look at the photo that CraigA posted & you will see exactly where it should go.

Mate, I don't even know how that guy got the heater in. I put my parcel shelf in and there was no way I could get the heater in unless I took the glovebox out. I suppose only if I had it on an angle sloping backwards. The chrome piece that goes between the dash(underneath) and the parcel shelf limits the position where it can go and thus if it's level the heater wont go(Nasco warmaride that is).Regards Kev..

Kev, if you install both the heater and Nasco parcel shelf as per the fitting instructions - they will fit just as shown in Brett's car.  It was designed by GMH to go together.
I have done this many times.

The EK Nasco parcel shelf is shorter then the FC parcel shelf since the EK heater mounts to the dash and firewall directly above the trans tunnel.
There were aftermarket parcel shelves made by other companies which were different including an FC shelf which runs full width of the car.  I think this shelf could also be fitted to EK as it had universal type mountings.

Thanks Ken, I don't know if that's good news or bad,as now I'll have to try again. It was a long process last time. Maybe the heater was installed in the wrong position by the previous owner. Ken would you have a copy of the fitting instructions and template for the Nasco warmaride heater please???. Thanks for clarifying this for me as I really did want to put both into the car.  Regards Kev.. ::) ::) ::)

Kev
I have the heater(Warmaride unit) fitted in centre above the tunnel and I have the nasco parcel shelf fitted.
I drilled one of the mounting holes where the radio back mounting strap bolts to the fire wall .
It is possible to fit them in with a bit of fiddling and measuring and it is still possible to remove heater even with the parcel shelf fitted, as I found out recently when I had to fit a new core.
I know this is not the "prefered"(By the puriest) mounting position for the heater but at least I can alter the front flaps without undoing my seatbelt and in the -5C weather Canberra has you need to play with the heater at times on the move.
Good Luck
John M
PS It is not possible to have the heater and a radio fitted like in the picture using the above, they hit each other.

Hi Chris.
Crisp clean air?? Exactly!! Ice is crisp & clean!! Man, I never tought I would be able to have a go at another State (or territory) regarding the cold weather (I am from TAS). Then, I visited Canberra in mid winter. Man, that is CRISP!!!!!
But I agree, Chris. Those snotty Queenslanders always mouthing of about the hot weather, they do not know what they are missing. Want to be warm? Turn up the heater!!!

Slim
It was only -2C at Richmond, you should come up to where the real "warm" weather is Canberra.
Chris
Last Sunday morning the air was not so clean, went for a drive and coming back into town at 2pm all you could see was a dirty brown layer of smoke.
A bit like Sydney on a normal day ::)

Hi.
Being from TAS, I am quite immune to all the "Cold down there" jokes, but would like to point out to all, that it rarely ever gets into the Minus temperatures. Hobart is a very temperate town. On the top of the mountain it get bloody cold, but this winter, we have only gone under 0 degrees one one occasion (-1 c). It was a frost.
Last Sunday was beautiful. 20 degrees. Bit of a surprise, but we all took advantage of it!!! Spring is on the way. Love it.

Hi Ed.
Yes, great place to see on a bike. My parents live on the Forestiers Penninsula on the way to Port Arthur. There are always stacks of bikes heading down that way. Carving up those twisty, sweeping bends. It is a bit like that add for the new Camry. Hunting for the twisty road.
Let me know when you come down. Use my parents as home base.

Hey Guy's
You wanna toughen up , here in Young NSW we've had frosts nearly every night for about 3 weeks (0 to -3) cars were frosted over at 9pm the other night and last week we had a warm night (5deg) and it went up to 7deg during the day  :o  ::)
The Mrs bought another car 4 weeks ago , heater works in this one , had no heaters in cars for last 6 years  :-/ :-/ :-/

Hi Norm,

Always good to see you here. Hope your health is still on the improve.

I'm not sure this example demonstrates "toughness" though.

There's a fine line between "Tough" and just plain silly!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Craig.

Hi All
Just to put my 2c in, I have lived in most of these places you have quoted temps from and some. Tasmania I am yet to experience but will be there on the 23 Aug 03.

Now we have not heard anything from our Vic members. Ask some one from East Gippsland about cold. I lived in Sale for many years now that is one confusing place you can have all 4 seasons in just one day down there.

Now for Canberra its the wind chill factor that gets you there.

Richmond is much the same as Canberra.

Ipswich lived hear for 2.5 years got down to -7 winter last year so far this year -3. and it can take till lunch to warm up.

So as you can see ppl up here in what these queenslanders call gods country are full of cr@p. It does get bloody cold up.

I want both a heater and an aircon.

True.
My Sister lives in Cairns. Magic she reckons. Beautiful. Lovely weather all the time. 30 degrees everyday. Problem is, you jump in the water for a swim, you either die from a Crocadile attack in the rivers, or get killed by a jelly fish in the sea:o  :o
She has been flooded out twice in the "Green Season" & nearly blown away with the cyclones they get.
Now I do like QLD, but when they mouth off about how great it is up there, they ALWAYS seem to forget the bad stuff. Just like my sister!! ::)
Then there is my Brother in-law. Dickhead!! Mate, Sydney is so much better than Hobart. Hobart is a cold shithole he reckons. Sydney is where it is at. Then I find out exactly where he lives in "Sydney". A place called Kariong. one & a half hours north of Sydney on a clear run. 3 hours when it is peak hour. That is like me saying I live in Launceston. At least Launceston is only 2 hours away!! Also, Kariong has been colder all last week than it was here. Go figure!!!
Lets face it, we are all different & all like different things. Imagine if we all lived in the same place. Boring, Huh??

I lived in Cairns for 4 years and hey I wouldnt put crap on it whatsoever, The weather is sweet as ,The night life is brilliant, The girls are into keeping fit and a catagory 3 cyclone has less blow in it than a good southerly here in Wollongong.
I surf too and didnt mind exchanging it for the lifestyle that would be hard to equal anywhere in Australia. :)

Hi Harko.
Not putting crap on Cairns, just stating a fact. She lives there & has for 8 years. All those things are true. No crap, just fact. Like I said, I like Cairns & QLD, but we all have to be honest.

I am with Rob on this one Harko.
But I will say NSW is the best state closely followed by SA ( I have to say that the is a crow eater). There is only one thing wrong with QLD. There are to many Queenslanders here and there NRL team is crap.

Go the mighty BLUE's 8)

Hi Jim.

When you come down to TAS, I will show you around. I am sure you will love it. I may even show you a couple of the old car stashes that are about. Bring one of those angry dogs that you train & we can set that onto the old bloke that tries to shoot you when you sneak into his car graveyard. It should buy us a bit of time to have a peak!!

John M.
Good point, mate. But don't we all talk about the weather?? Human nature I suppose. I will find a parcel shelf for Slim to thank him for letting us use his post as a weather discussion.
