Title: Brakes - FE - what can i do?? Post by: meredith on May 25, 2003, 12:48:26 AM hi just wondering if anyone can shed some light for me on what would be my best option for doing up brakes on FE sedan. I have been told that i should fit disc brakes on front, but not sure which will fit, from what model car i should get this?? or is my bet option to get new shoes/drums............ can we get still get these and where from?? this is fairly urgent as the brake system is not too good as it is right now.......they grind etc. any help or opinions would be appreciated as i am really not sure which way to go.

If it is an everyday driver in any sort of traffic, fit disc brakes. Check out following site it reveals all(Sort Of) http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/tech002.html Also if the brakes are grinding stop driving it and get it fixed, it sounds as if your brake linings are non existent and this is very dangerous and expensive if you keep driving. As John said, it sounds like your pads are worn out, which is - literally - an accident waiting to happen. If you want to keep your car original, just get new brake pads which probably won't cost more than $120 fitted. At the same time any competent brake specialist will also check the slave cylinders and other parts for leaks and/or wear. If you're in Sydney I can recommend someone. If you are serious about the disk brake option, you are talking about probably $600 - $800 and a non-original vehicle at the end of it. As John said, it does depend a bit on the usage of the car, and how strongly you feel about keeping it original. Tell us a bit more about the vehicle and how you use it. But I wouldn't be driving it any further than I had to until you get something done. Having no brakes is not a good feeling for you or the bloke in front... cheers RET Title: Re: Brakes - FE - what can i do?? Post by: meredith on May 25, 2003, 06:40:25 AM Thanks guys
yeah i am not driving it any further than the brake guy when i work out who can do it. As it is mainly a sunday drive car at the moment and i am trying to sell it the option of just doing the brake repair is probably the better at this point, i just want to get it right (and safe) for whoever ends up with it, as the car is mostly original i suppose keeping the system as is is the best way to go for now. Look once again thanks heaps for your input with this, i do really appreciate it. Regards Meredith |
