Title: Removing motor from FE
Post by: heavyduty1340 on March 17, 2013, 02:20:16 PM
Well the time has come to remove the old 202 motor from my FE and replace it with the hot 208 that I had built

First qu - do I remove bonnet from car to make the job easier?

Do I remove motor and trimatic in one go, or split them

What the best option auto wise -
Im staying traumatic, but do I build a strong 6cyl one, or get a v8 one modified to fit? - this trans will cop a bit of a hiding so needs to be relatively tough.

Bonnet off , radiator , support panel, all need to be removed.
should all come out in 1 hit.
What gearbox is in it now ?
Does the tunnel need modifying..

Heavyduty, basically the 6 cyl and V8 trimatics are the same except for the bellhousing. These gearboxs were not highly rated in the early days however there have been many advances and are now very good if you get it built by a good gearbox builder. These gearboxes are still found in many drag cars with high horse power.

Already got a traumatic and B&M shifter but want to ensure Im not pulling it out for  long time, hence replace it now with the motor

We have built up a very hot 208 blue motor full of all the good gear, incl a custom 12 port head, and Ive picked up a custom hi stall based on a Gemini convertor

Gotta find a manifold for it now as well

Blue 202  block fully checked, prepped and bored
forged slugs, file back rings starfire rods, ARP bolts and studs h/v oil pump etc
12 port head hand ported race job done on it by a WA old timer, after market balancer, SFI Approved Flex plate.

I didn't realize how much one of these little suckers would cost to build strong - could have built a bloody tough ls1 for similar money!!

whats coming out, like whats in it now? a blue, black or red? could have got a crate 2j, but u have to run all the pollution crap, so your 202 will look the part and keep relatively old school.

Red 3.3 coming out

I was going to go v8, but I thought I'd go back to the old school way for some fun

Spoke to Chris Dimoff, and twisted his arm into building me a tough manual valve bodied traumatic. I'm supplying him my core and he will do the rest.
I was lucky enough to pick up a convertor from gumtree that was a special build from Allfast Convertors. Based on the Gemini stall, but custom built from there.
When I picked it up, it was unused, and had texta markings on it - I took a punt and rang them up - the bloke asked for a pic to be text to him ,and rang back informing me that it was a special build for one of his mates and was a lucky find woohoo $90.00 well spent!!

They wont let me in WA

The car looks the part now with its different paint etc now - Im gonna leave it old school

I would rather do a ground up build of another body if I was to go the V8 route

I had another thread somewhere from when I first bought the car - here are some pics
