Title: V8 exhaust system balancer pipe position
Post by: perth_ute on February 17, 2013, 11:34:44 PM
Hello wondering where people have put the exhaust balancer pipe on v8 as worried about handbrake cable. Any photos would be great.

Separate pipes all the way to the back of the car.

Hi Nes304,
I made my own 4 into 1 extractors using 1 5/8 primary's and then twin cats with a straight through muffler and resonator each side.
The pipes are 2 1/2 inch. No balance pipes, each side is completely separate.
Sounds great, I was worried it would sound like a commodore if i used a single system. With the twins its like an old HQ sound... :)
I can send pictures if you like  ;D
Thanks,
Shannon

Pics yes please. I spoke to an exhaust mob here and they said 2.5'' dual system is too loud. I call bullshit

The sound from a twin system without a balance pipe is of a very "acquired" taste in my opinion.A mate of mine has done few different ones of different sizes thinking it would sound ok but within a few days put the balance pipe in to get rid of the speedboat flapping sound. The boxes can make a huge difference also.My VH runs 1"and 5/8 collectors into a 2.5" "x" system where the two 2.5" pipes meet just behind the pan on the trans. Then they continue on to two boxes which dump just before the diff for ease of removal.Everybody has their own tastes with sounds of vehicles so try it without the balance pipe first then you could always put it in if you don't like it.Jamie.

I am putting twin 2 1/4 but would likened back on the balancer pipe because of the handbrake cable

dont run 1 and just balance them at the muffler or resernator
or as mentioned before an "x over" system may better suit your needs,

personal i perfore the x over as it balances the system nicer and if done propley will in cress horse power by assisting in airflow the same way extractors to

Just been to the exhaust shop. Plan is to run the extractors down to the sides and put a balancer pipe just in front of the handbrake lever on the back of the gearbox. Would love to see pics of other sit-ups.
