Title: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: pbh0069 on December 29, 2012, 09:21:21 AM hi, can anybody help me with information about the retaining trim clips that are attached to the boot each side of the boot lock on my FE that attach the two trim pieces as i am stripping it ready to fill and prime it.
1. are these available from rear spares or similar, have tried to research them without success.. 2. how are they attached to the boot.( very hard to get in behind boot to see ) 3. if repo ones are not available what would members suggest to reattach them later was thinking about cutting old ones off and drilling a small hole into the boot brace panel so i could reconnect with a slid bolt and nut ??? cheers Phil. i removed the old ones from the outside and what was left in the boot just pushed through into the boot frame work leaving a oval shaped hole witch is slightly raised ( only about 1mm ) the hole is 1/2" long and 1/4" high Phil ??? 1 less place for water to come in. pete Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: pbh0069 on December 29, 2012, 08:14:34 PM thanks Pete
the old ones i cut off did have some type of sealer on them so what ever i use will have to be resealed. Phil :-X Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: FCRB26 on December 29, 2012, 08:29:53 PM the first time i did the FC I used rubber grommets from repco the type for wiring to go thru but small ones.
They worked good but you will need some vaseline on the shaft so the rubber doesnt roll into the hole (where still talking FE bootlids) But i just used urethane the second time. Have you seen them masonary things like a dyna bolt but plastic with what looks like a nail in the centre maybe try one of them ??? They have a plastic rib on them so they cant come back outand just drill the hole in the centre to suit. will have a look around for those rubber grommets,i have used them on other thing before. cheers Phil. Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: Stewy on December 29, 2012, 10:35:29 PM Hi Phil,
I have been having a look to see what I can find in the parts book. It is clip number 4562113 (http://s7.postimage.org/demjwts13/img007.jpg) ($2) I only have a wagon so have not seen inside the boot, but if you cant get to the back to put a nut on you might need to make up something. Rare spares do sell a clip with a 22mm side which will slide in behind the moulding but you would have to glue it in position to the back of the moulding first, and then push into the rubber gromets. Just my idea of how I might tackle the problem. Hope this might be of some help. PM me with your phone number if I can be of any help. Cheers Stewy 8) Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: pbh0069 on December 30, 2012, 07:37:38 AM Stewy
Thanks for your reply, from what was left on the boot before i cut them off i would say it was the 4562113 clips. I think a slide behind the trim and pushed through a rubber grommet is the way to go ( will try and make stainless ones ) Thankyou to everyone that answered , once again what a great forum for advise and ideas Cheers Phil. :-X Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: FCRB26 on December 30, 2012, 07:57:40 AM Sorry for the confusion i thought you were talking about 3730562 as i had FC stuck in my head they use these on the 2 outer wings.
Ill have a look in my stash you should be able to use clips like on the S/S trims on FC rear doors on the lower S/S mould. I think rare spares now replace most of these fancy clips with a flat piece of steel with a bolt tacked in the middle, trimmed off at 45 degrees top and bottom so it simply rotates and the 45 gets caught on the lip of the moulding http://www.sparescity.com.au/products.php?product=HOLDEN-FC-Special-moulding-clip-set Ill have a look at my FE today and see what i have stashed. No problem will wait to hear cheers Phil. :-X Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: mcl1959 on December 30, 2012, 11:00:33 AM The correct clip 4562113 is a push in clip, there is no access from inside the boot because of double skin and only about 10 mm clearance. However it is the same clip as used on FE front door upper stripe, so can usually be sourced from an FE wreck. You can also use SP1405 which is the clip from FC front door upper stripe and rear door upper and lower stripes. Failing all that you could purchase later plastic clips from HQ era which can be screwed to the boot lid and then the emblem is pushed on. Note that you will probably need to trim the plastic to the correct size. It should not be that hard to get good second hand clips from either FE or FC.

Phil Title: Re: retaining clips for fe boot trims Post by: hsv-001 on January 05, 2013, 04:03:57 PM Back in the early 80,s i filled up the existing holes before painting then redrilled with small drill .I then found an old icecream container, cut some rectangular pieces to fit and screwed into place with gal. selftapping screws .From memory the two trims can be slid into place from the outside in.This sounds dodgy but no trouble with leaks or rust.
