Title: Tar-top Battery
Post by: RET on November 16, 2012, 06:35:01 PM
The original style "tar-top" battery in my FE has developed a crack in the casing, and I need to replace it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might find such a thing? I have heard of NOS casings being available from time to time.

Thanks in advance,

RET

Stewy,

Yeah. No. :o

Keith,

Thanks for the tip - that's the mob I'd heard of, couldn't remember the name. I've sent 'em an email.

cheers

Ret,
You could also try Globe Batteries @ Padstow.

Thanks Graham, I will. I had previously got the impression they would rebuild one if you had the hard rubber casing, but that's the problem: mine's had it.

I'll give them a ring on Monday.

RET - Ariel have done quite a few battery rebuilds for me over the years. I've always been happy with their work. I simply empty the battery and post it down to them. They send it back dry and then it's just a matter of adding the acid.

Thanks Ken. The hard-rubber casing on mine is cracked, and I'm told they can't really be repaired.

No reply as yet from Ariel to email over the weekend. If work quietens down a bit, I might ring 'em and discuss.

Appreciate the help.

cheers

RET - if the old one's beyond repair it might be worth your while to ask if they have any originals in stock. I bought a re-built genuine FE/FC battery from them about 8 months ago. I know they get them from time to time.
