Title: Speco "Twin-Stick" Gear Shift boot plate/surround
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on October 15, 2012, 11:01:02 PM
I am after the actual item or even a tracing of an original would do, I got the old boot when I bought the shifter but there is no plate.

Any leads or help appreciated.

Stinky,

Is there anything unusual about the twin-stick boot? I've got a boot at home that I suspect is a "Speco-Thomas Universal gear shift boot 621509". It's made for a 3½” x 4½” hole, and to suit a leather/vinyl boot. From memory, I've also got the boot for a Speco Aussie 3-speed as well (would have to check that one though... can't remember whats in the box), and a couple of rubber Impala boots. If they are what you are after, I'm happy to take photos/measurements.

Speco also did a rubber boots:
a) Nissan gear shift boot (621511) for a 3” x 5½” hole,
b) centreshift gear shift boot (621514) for a 3½” x 4” hole,
c) Euro gear shift boot (621515) for a 3½” x 5¼” hole,
d) Mega boot (621516, also sold as Spectre 6284) for a 8” x 9” hole,

Spectre Performance did a 6283 for a 6.5”x5.5” hole, and a 6285 for a 5.25”x4” hole (this one had a round rubber top instead of the normal pyramid shape).

Cheers,
Harv.

The measurements would be great thanks, I'll have to make something anyway and that will give me a starting point. I guess the Twin-Stick boot would be similar to the single stick Aussie 4 Speed shifter  :-\

No worries Stinky, once I get home next week I'll take some photos and measurements.

Cheers,
Harv.

G'day Stinky,

Looks like I've got three boot surrounds (this is how it happens... I start writing about a crashbox guide, then get distracted with floor shifters... and end up with a box full of them  :-[):
The one on the left is an original Impala boot and plate.
The one in the middle is an original Speco boot and plate.
The one on the right is a made-in-Taiwan cheapy - probably not Speco as the plate is much thinner.

The Speco one is the one supplied to suit with a 601474 shifter kit (HQ-HZ Aussie 3-speed). I suspect it is a Speco-Thomas
Centreshift gear shift boot, part number 621514   3 to suit a ½” x 4” hole. It measures 138mmx160mm, with the plate 19mm wide and 1.2mm thick. Holes are 3/16". Inside corner radius are about 9mm, outside radius 15mm.

Let me know if you want a tracing and I'll throw one in the post, or if you want dimensions of the shifter itself.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
Harv.

Thanks Harv and Pete,

Pete, I'll take you up on that offer as soon as I have confirmed it's all going to fit and work.

The Impala brand is a funny one. No link to GM that I know of, but their logo is very, very close to the Chev Impala logo:

If anyone has any info/instructions etc for Impala gear, I'd love a copy for the crashbox guide.

Cheers,
Harv
