I've got one of those I've used as a key-ring for years. It was mentioned previously on a thread about key-rings ($2).

Anyway, it's the official corporate logo circa 1928 ($2) (i.e. pre-GM ownership), and this plate was affixed to vehicles assembled/built by Holden, as jack_fc suggested. Couldn't say what it would be worth though. Perhaps Shannons have had them or similar in their memorabilia auctions?

According to Eddie Ford's history of Holden book the oval diecast badge was introduced in 1939 and ran until the late 40's when Holden stopped attaching a badge to their locally assembled cars. The 1928 badge had the same lion emblem but was a rectangular badge.
Bedford trucks used another rectangular badge into the fifties.

They are not really rare - my estimate would be $20 to $30
