Title: Identify Block as Red or Blue motor?
Post by: heavyduty1340 on August 27, 2012, 11:22:12 AM
Can anyone id a block from the engine no etc to help me find out if the motor in my FE is a red or blue motor

I was informed by an engine reconditioner that both red and blue motors cam stamped as 3.3l???

I am currently building up a hot 3.3l black motor with blue motor head for the old girl

The logic behind this is that he also told me that starfire rods wont clear the sump on a red motor, but the blue sumps had clearances ground into them??? I am trying to find out if I need a different sump now or not.

Thank you

That rules it out being a blue motor then :-\

As long as the sump that is on it suits a black motor I am building, and clears the starfire rods I am fine then

Shoot - just realised that now that we have worked out the motor is a red one, I am worried the head isnt a 12 port, hence intake manifold and extractors will need changing.

I have a set of VH commodore blue motor extractors and std intake - will the extractors be a close fit, and can intake be modeded to accept holley?

Damn, I thought this would be an easy quick swap - DOHHHHHHHH.
