Title: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 12, 2012, 09:03:09 PM So after a very loooooooooooooooong time looking I finally found a really good roller for my project and it was only 15 minutes away from my place ::)
(http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k131/benglover/8237m8n_20.jpg) (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k131/benglover/0907f1i_20.jpg) The good: It has a HR disc brake front end, 202 with M21 box and virtually no rust. The bad: Interior needs a complete overhaul and its missing its carpet, previous owner lost the ignition key, chrome strip on front right guard missing and slight pitting on front/rear bars. I had a clear direction that I wanted to go with the car but now I've found it I'm really stuck in two minds as to what I want to do now... Anyway I'll make sure I keep the thread updated with progress pics and my decision which direction I want to go. Cheers Ben Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Good score and I love it when they are "round the corner" Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: NickZ on August 13, 2012, 08:14:52 AM Bugger, i didnt think this would last long, I used to missing out on them!

Good to see another Tassie roller.........Nats...not long now! regards Weddo Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 14, 2012, 08:29:05 PM The original plan was to build a replica of my first FC but instead of the worked 202 use the hot 186 I already have. As above this shell already has a HR front end, black 202 (suspected head gasket) with M21 box.
"MOST" of the hard work has been done so it just leaves the strip and tidy up and reassemble with my wheels, interior and brake mods. BUT now I've found the shell and the condition its in I'm toying with the idea of a 1UZ/5 speed, tubbed, dropped and different wheels... Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 18, 2012, 01:35:03 PM Car is home and have started stripping it ready to asses how good/bad it actually is.
The interior is a complete mess, the black 202 has a suspected blown head gasket so I will pull the head off to assess once its out and see if its worth rebuilding/repairing or sell. I can see that the biggest obstacle is going to be the wiring, rubbers/seals and the interior but nothing I wont have a crack at. I've decided to continue on with the original plan and keep it all Holden so: dropping in my 186 swapping the 4 speed for a 5 speed rebuild the HR front end & brake upgrade exchange the rear end (haven't decided what as yet) clean & simple interior based on how it rolled off the factory floor I have a few odds and ends to acquire so I have a complete car to start with and I'm sure I will change my mind a thousand times whilst the build is happening but I have a picture in my head how I want the car to look once complete and hopefully can achieve that. Will update with pics later on. Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: waynos on August 18, 2012, 02:13:19 PM nice start........you're very lucky
by the way whats a 1uz motor? glad ya keepin it aussie now good luck with the build mate Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 18, 2012, 02:19:06 PM nice start........you're very lucky by the way whats a 1uz motor? glad ya keepin it aussie now good luck with the build mate Waynos a 1UZ is a 4L quad cam V8 that is commonly used in the Toyota Lexus/Soarer. Cheap to buy but costly to mod compared to a LS with conversion, especially if you want manual. Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: waynos on August 18, 2012, 02:35:30 PM thanks

Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 18, 2012, 08:52:00 PM Hehehe...do it,you know you want to!!! ;D Oh trust me I'm the last person that needs any convincing but the better half might have something to say about it given how full my place is at the moment with recent purchases. In the past 12 months I've managed to bring home: brand new Mazda BT50, Hino FPR800 tipper, Holden Rodeo 4X4, the FC my back up work vehicle ;D (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k131/benglover/IMG_0429.jpg) Not mention already having an MX32 in the shed (current project) an EH sedan (partly built track car) a corolla 4x4 wagon (to take the dogs to the beach) the better half's 407 twin turbo wagon and my track bike let alone all the other crap/projects in the shed. SOME HOW I've managed not become single or homeless in the process ??? Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: TTV6FC on August 18, 2012, 09:58:52 PM oh toys,...so many toys!!!! ;)
Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: waynos on August 18, 2012, 11:12:52 PM what sort of charger ?
i been lookin at eaton m90s Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 19, 2012, 09:26:16 AM what sort of charger ? i been lookin at eaton m90s An Eaton would be great but I'll more than likely use a SC14 if I can source one in good condition as I can set that up ALOT cheaper. Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on August 19, 2012, 06:37:53 PM Apologies if this has been covered already I did search and was unable to find anything.
Whilst working on the FC today and trying to plan out things in my head it suddenly hit me (I've only been staring at it for the past 3 days straight) that the handbrake has been modified and is now mounted on the floor between the seats. Now this doesn't really concern me given that I plan on running front buckets anyway but it does take away some of the "originality" (I know that sounds silly given the car sits on wider rims, HR front & rear end, modified column and a 202) but it just doesn't feel right IMO. Am I being silly and just run with it given all the hard work has been done or should I return it back to the way it was from factory??? Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: FCRB26 on August 19, 2012, 07:09:05 PM Do what makes it feel like you wanna drive it all the time 6 or 8 injected or carby.
My best memorys of driving my fc were 400 thousand km RB30 motor stock wheel hr rear disc front end on its guts handled like it was on rails loved every moment of it. hopefully i can get it something of how it was when im finished. pete Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on September 01, 2012, 07:03:49 PM Started cleaning up some of the chrome before I start stripping it all down to see how bad it actually is and if I'm going to re chrome or polish.
Majority of it cleaned up quite well so going to spend some more time on it before I decide if I send it away to be re chromed or not. (WILL POST PICS AFTER I FINISH RESIZING THEM) The old 202 is now ready to lift out and pull down to diagnose what went wrong with it and see if its worth rebuilding or not. The more I look over the car the more I realise what's there and what's been modified eg: VH44 booster, modified front rack, engine bay has been modified to allow triples, reset rear leaves to name a few. Will update thread with pics/info later Cheers Ben Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: NES304 on September 06, 2012, 11:53:17 AM So you still going to run a 186?
I have a V6 spare now ::) Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on September 07, 2012, 10:15:30 AM So you still going to run a 186? I have a V6 spare now ::) The plan was to either finish building my 186 or build a wild 202 but sadly I lost my job on Monday so it looks like the FC could be up for sale :( Title: Re: Decisions decisions... JB Thanks JB It couldn't have come at a worse time given the lack of work here in Tassie the roll I was on with the car :( Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: FCRB26 on September 13, 2012, 05:19:45 AM Bugger
sorry to hear that .. What sort of money did you have on her. Pete Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on September 13, 2012, 06:02:09 PM Bugger sorry to hear that .. What sort of money did you have on her. Pete Pete I advertised it for $7500 but negotiable with my running gear and to stop the time wasters. Its a very sold car with very little body work required and its not like there are too many for sale around my parts. Cheers Ben Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: FCRB26 on September 13, 2012, 06:43:57 PM Thats what i was thinking they would be few and far between down there.
Good luck with the sale. Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on December 05, 2012, 02:06:22 PM I've had a lot of time on my hands due to unemployment and have been spending some of it working on the FC to stop me going crazy due to the lack of work here in Tassie.
I've been doing little things that don't really cost money like cleaning up all the chrome, started aligning all the doors (man that's a bitch to do) sorting out the rats nest that was the wiring under the dash, cleaning up the rims etc I finally got around to removing the ID tag so I could clean it up and get the numbers: NO: 225-15625 TRIM: 254-629 PAINT: 253-7773 RPO: 253-5300 It was originally Wangarra Grey over Ascot Grey with red/black interior. I have taken some pics as I've been going but I still need to re-size and upload them to photobucket but will make sure I get them up here as well. Even though I've had a lot of interest in the car whilst its been for sale no serious buyers so far which is kind of a good thing as deep down inside I don't want to sell her but its keep the car and sleep in it or sell and keep the house over the better half's head and apparently "it would be just like camping" wasn't as funny to her as it was in my head!!! Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: mcl1959 on December 05, 2012, 05:54:47 PM Thanks for the I'd data, I assume the body number ends with an M?
Ken Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on December 05, 2012, 06:03:16 PM Thanks for the I'd data, I assume the body number ends with an M? Ken Hey Ken Yes it is an M elbourne :D It took a while to verify the numbers were correct due to how badly damaged the ID tag is. I provided as many details as I could to a friend at the local Holden Dealership who verified the numbers for me. Now I just have to look into the legalities of getting another ID tagged stamped/made to replace the one that is damaged. Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on December 10, 2012, 10:09:25 AM So I was notified this morning that I am unable to have another ID tag stamped and due to how badly the original tag is damaged it looks like this car will never see the road again "legally" :(
Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: fcwrangler on December 10, 2012, 10:02:57 PM Ben, I have an ID plate on an old frontend that is similar to yours although it is a Sydney car and the trim code is different.
Are the armrests red or black? as I have found that even though the trim is Riff Red & Black the numbers are not the same. My tag reads as follows. Body--FC255-37201-S I think Trim--254-847--- two tone paint/ Riff Red& Black Paint--253-7773---Wangarra Grey Insert--253-5300---Ascot Grey Send me a pm if you are interested, regards Jim Title: Re: Decisions decisions... it's common place, nothing deceptive going on. Numbers often need to be re-welded in if sections of cars are replaced due to rust. Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: fcwrangler on December 13, 2012, 05:10:48 PM As long as your chassis number is readable then you should not have any problems with rego, I checked the tag yesterday and all is clear, the body no. is FC255-37101-S.
Jim Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: Stewy on December 13, 2012, 05:20:45 PM Going to be picky but shouldn't the body number be FC 225-37101-S ;)

Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: GMB-58FC on January 26, 2014, 04:58:08 PM What's the latest ??? Dean I was busy collecting bits & pieces that I needed and doing a little work on the car as I went (main priority was obtaining work again and finishing off the landscaping & reno's around the house) so it was very basic stuff (stripping a panel at a time to assess body, cleaning up chrome/stainless trim, sorting out the wiring (one of the worst/dodgiest jobs I've ever seen etc Sadly a couple of months ago I came home (was not out long) to my car sitting half in the street/driveway with a chain hanging off the front. Someone/people had obviously been watching the house as I had only moved the car out of the backyard to finish excavation for the retaining walls and new slab and stupidly left it in the driveway. I took my dogs to the beach to cool off and when I came back the car was dumped (they were disturbed by a neighbour) all the parts/pieces that I had collected had been removed out of the car and sadly some damage was cause when they dumped the car. I'm now in two minds if I want to continue with the project or sell the shell and my running gear and walk away as I'm still arguing with the insurance company about being covered (they won't payout as the car wasn't where it was stipulated it would be when I took out insurance :( So that's where I sit and why I've been quiet and not online of late. Cheers Ben Title: Re: Decisions decisions... Post by: Not Happy Jan on January 27, 2014, 08:29:47 AM That sucks big time.
