we just bought an FE
body wise its perfect with a small amount of surface rust near the back window
Will post the body numbers when we get it home

comes with everything and a spare motor

Yes i do . I did try and sell it but must of been asking to much for it . I was lucky enough to find 4 nos sills just need to fit them and weld up the sunroof hole . We also have 2 EH`s and a 1 Tonner now . Ya can never have to many Holdens . Do you still have your Van ?

No mate that went about 3 years ago to a very good home. Good luck with the sedan and keep that photos coming!

If you have the chassis no. and the engine no. you can go to the technical info section at the start of the forum and go to the decode your vehicle section and it will give you all the info on your car. I have entered your body numbers and this tells me your car is the 13,114 th car built in Adelaide, it is a single tone of Frankstone cream with Fall Red and Parchment Ivory trim.

got it running today , a little ruff .Put water in radiator and it went straight to the sump and exhuast is now leaking ... not fumes ... water

I had that happen to me once on an EJ I had, pushed water out the exhaust.  THought it was a head gasket so pulled the head off, replaced it and put it all back together.  Started it up, ran fine then filled the radiator and THE SAME THING HAPPENED  ???
It ended up that there was a small corrosion hole inside the valve chamber of No 1 cylinder.  Head off again, whacked another one on and voila  :D
So long of the short, I have seen greys more recently develop holes in the head either in and around the valves (and the flat area of the head above the piston) must just be the age they are getting to.

Thanks Guy`s will pull the head of soon and have a look . I hav`nt played with a Grey motor since i was 18  hope i remember how :)

Im not a machanic but the head looks fine so of to the parts shop tommorow for a gasket set

Difficult to tell entirely by the photo's but there is evidence of leakage between water jackets and cylinders in 1, 2, 3 and 4. Hard to say with others. It would be good advice to get pressure and crack tested and check for warpage. There is room for a grind as the thumb print is present.

Took a gamble and bolted it back on . she runs sweet even gave it a recon paint job :) it was painted light grey as you can see on the valves . Painted the manifold a cast colour kinda looks silver in the photo

No wont be under the battery - it should be either to the left or the right of the wire retainer tab spot welded to the skirt - It is much smaller stamp size than FC uses on the driver's side. - Having said that there are 2 possibilities why it may not have one at all. It may have had an accident at some stage and a replacement subframe or just the skirt itself was put in, or for some inexplicable reason a some FE's appear to have no chassis numbers at all and they do not appear to have ever been repaired. I have seen about 6 or so FE's like this - all 1957 models and the only logical answer I can come up with is that maybe they had an accident when they were very new and the repair has been done to original quality and it has aged so that it looks original now.

I can't see why any car would leave GMH without a chassis number - The number has to be on the sales docket!

Mine has no numbers but has had "police numbers" im told very dodgy stamping really long number.

put a tail light on and noticed no indicator bulb and the hole where it sits is blanked of with a plastic plug ,

Lookin good FantaC, that plastic plug is where the reversing light option would normally go

The tail light you are using would have had the brake and blinker operating off the same globe (red blinker)

Thats how they came out of the factory.
Indicators only options on the standard models, Specials (225,229) had them from factory, so would have to still be legal in oz.
I think you should be able to argue the point unless they can find legislation to prove otherwise.

anyone know where i can get the gaurd bolts from ?

I don't know where the post was but Pete(FC hoon) was telling us about Rivnuts not long ago, you fit them into the front end and they are threaded to take a normal bolt instead of the dodgy standard ones that strip all the time.

now the tool is expensive if you check out FEVANS build he did the bolt trick check out his build.
