It sounds like it is just missing a lockout - this is a small bracket bolted to the column just below where the lever comes out of the column. It prevents gears being selected by just bumping as you say.

after searching i have found nothing to suit the cable i need to select gears from the column. if anyone has or knows the whereabouts of RODS RACKS ( who modified the column to achieve this end result as such  ) or some one that can come and guide me with their knowledge , would be great . next option is throw it away and get a new one from Melbourne ?????????????????????????????????????????????

First you say you had a columb modified by RodRacks, then you ask if anyone knows where they are,so i'm as confused as you are,i can't understand why you just didn't fit a auto columb from,ek,ej,eh in the first place :-X

The normal factory lockouts are screwed to the column just above where the lever comes out. If you picked up a lockout from a car which has the same transmission that you have things may be clearer because often seeing how the original works helps in building a custom one. If your car has a Trimatic then you might get one from a HT or HG. The floor looks like it is a tight clearance where the lockout needs to go so this may need to be enlarged a bit. Also the shift lever itself may need to be slightly modified to work in the lockout as it is a different shape to factory. To do all this you will have to take the column in and out a few times and then line up slots with transmission shift positions. It can be a fiddly job and be quite time consuming if you are paying someone to do it.

the end result of what i wanted from the modified column is not what i have got in the end . i have had several people look at the column to try and reslove this issue and they said that the work that has been done is not right or safe .
i can only go by what they say as i don't know what has been done and not done as such. but the one thing i do know is that it is not  what i wanted and paid for. not here to point fingers but to get a outcome so i can get my girl back on the road asap.
