Post by: cruisin_doug on June 28, 2012, 01:08:07 PM Gidday everyone I 've rejoined the forum after a few years abscence as I still have the interest, just not the car anymore :'( although I am pretty happy with my humpie, anyway, a bit of trivia I came across on another forum about how models were designated between FJ and EH. The letters L, K,J,H,G,F,E,D,C,B represented the digits 0 to 9 in that order and represented the year of release (or planned release?). I can see why they would leave out the "I" to avoid confusion with "1" but can't see why they would have left out the "A"...
Anyway starting with the FJ, it comes up as 52 (intended release year) and works for each model's release year except for the FB (which was also released later than planned): FJ = 52; FE = 56; FC = 58; FB = 59; EK = 61; EJ = 62; and EH = 64. "this forum is Gold !" ... yeah I think I may have seen it posted by one of the FB-EK guys over on their Forum , Dave .

so where did FX? come from. I understand it is not an official label for the 48. Title: Re: Model Codes ... ie , FJ , FE , FC , FB , EK , EJ , EH etc , etc ... Post by: fcwrangler on June 28, 2012, 02:29:00 PM From what I understand, the FX came from a spare parts guy who was fed up with people asking for FJ parts when the had a 48/215. So in his frustration he took it upon himself to use the FX prefix for his own use , and it snowballed from there.

Title: Re: Model Codes ... ie , FJ , FE , FC , FB , EK , EJ , EH etc , etc ... Post by: colt on June 28, 2012, 05:34:12 PM According to the books the HD was named after it's designer, David Hegland. Dunno after that.

Ken Title: Re: Model Codes ... ie , FJ , FE , FC , FB , EK , EJ , EH etc , etc ... Post by: colt on June 28, 2012, 10:20:41 PM I saw the pic of the EF again at our meeting tonight. Which would have been after the EH if the code continued. I definitely prefer the HD.
