Title: Headlight surrounds Post by: GM on May 19, 2012, 09:39:33 AM Hi all, are all fe fc headlight surrounds the same? Can get some re-chromed ones but I'm a little worried they may not fit
Cheers Glenn Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Maco on May 19, 2012, 11:02:34 AM Glen,
I believe there are 2 types Bosch & Lucas. The fit is a little different, found this when I did the resto on my car. Cheers John Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: brett_f on May 19, 2012, 11:34:08 AM Glenn,
When i was building my car i found the headlight surrounds to all be different shapes. Some fitted better than others. I had to mix and match to get the gaps right. I went through about 8 before i got two that were just about right. I then had these re-chromed. You might be happy with gaps slightly off but im a bit picky. Regards brett Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: GM on May 20, 2012, 03:21:47 PM Thanks guys, will look at re-chroming mine instead
Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: weddo on May 20, 2012, 05:44:19 PM If you are going to rechrome them Glen, you might be able to do some fine adjustments with the gaps by easing a bit off some metal with a light grind or file

Does the Bosch rims have a flat front edge, around 3mm & Lucas have a sharper front edge more pointed. Andrew Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: FCRB26 on May 20, 2012, 07:12:18 PM Yes Bosch flat Lucas round
Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: mcl1959 on May 20, 2012, 07:58:15 PM Easy way to tell - Lucas has 2 slots machined into the rim at the bottom where the lower screw goes in.
Ken Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Stewy on May 20, 2012, 08:26:34 PM And the bosch has bosch stamped into the back,
also has imported Germany. But were they really imported? Cheers Stewy 8) Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Dave Lakin (Davo Lako) on May 20, 2012, 10:09:28 PM Woahh !!! ... This forum is "insane" for it's knowledge , helpfulness and detail !!!

great stuff FE 4 ME Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: KFH on May 21, 2012, 05:35:17 PM To add further to the discussion. At the bottom of the rim the Bosch has a single wide gap in the surround while the Lucas rim has two smaller gaps.
Keith Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Stewy on May 21, 2012, 10:17:22 PM I found one in the shed that has nothing on the bottom edge ???
also has no part number or manufacture details (not even HOLDEN) in the casting. The casting is similar to the lucas one but is certainly not the same. I only have one like it and it came off a wrecked FC wagon. It has been chopped out with a grinder on the top inside so is not reusable just another variation maybe ? (http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc439/DavidLakin/headlightsurroundlucas.jpg) Bosch ... (I assume) (http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc439/DavidLakin/headlightsurroundbosch.jpg) Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Dave Lakin (Davo Lako) on May 22, 2012, 02:58:12 PM Lucas ...
(http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc439/DavidLakin/headlightsorroundslucascurved.jpg) Bosch ... (I think) ... Where they sit against the headlight. All my Bosch ones have Bosch and Made in Australia on the back. Reg. Design also.
Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: mcl1959 on May 22, 2012, 08:20:55 PM There is a third one which I had not mentioned because I don't know much about it - It has no marks on it and no cut outs on the bottom. Quite rare.
It does not appear to be original equipment but a later repro made by GMH as a replacement part maybe. I bought a NOS set maybe 20 years ago and put them on the 3 door van. Other than that I have only seen the odd one now and then. (http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc439/DavidLakin/headlightsurroundboschb.jpg) I recently won a pair of surrounds on Ebay ... one turned out to be a Bosch ... the other, a Lucas ... Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Roybeth on April 23, 2017, 09:03:36 AM Super info guys - answered my question before asking - just looking at cleaning up the headlight surrounds and putting them back on my Ute - we have 5 to choose from and I noted two types - now I know for sure two are Lucas and three are Bosch (yep it does say it inside). I note someone has mentioned they have slightly different profiles so will have to think about having two the same as well as which ones still have the best chrome on them.
Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: Stewy on April 23, 2017, 05:23:39 PM You should check what headlights you have as they are also Lucas and Bosch with different gaskets and globes that are not interchangeable.
I have Lucas on the 58 FC and Bosch on the 57 FE. Cheers Stewy 8) Title: Re: Headlight surrounds Post by: LimeSoda on May 15, 2017, 04:18:10 PM Great thread. Thanks for sharing the details.
