Title: Visit to Holden Engine Plant
Post by: Trevor_B on May 09, 2012, 07:36:55 PM
I was lucky enough today to be part of the Holden Car Clubs tour of the Holden Engine Plant in Port Melbourne  :) :)

This was organised via Tim & Holden Heaven and a number of VIC based Holden car clubs were invited to send along 2 members for the first of these special tours.

Apparently a number of these types of events are to be run in the future as part of Holden's acknowledgement of our Car Clubs. It is also a great indication of Tim's engagement with Holden.

The tour seemed fairly short as there was so much to see, especially as they were manufacturing the same engine as I have in my own SV6 sportswagon. Don't think I will be building up one of these like I do with my grey motors - even changing the plugs looks like quite a challenge :o. Interesting that the major castings are made in Mexico and that the engines are "cold run" for several minutes i.e. run up using an electric motor rather than starting on petrol.

If you get the chance to go then put your hand up quickly as the places went quickly.

Cheers,
