Hello all. I have just kicked off my (first time) FC build and am already in need of some worldly advice and wisdom.
The car will be re-powered (mostly) by a VS commodore donor. The front end will be pat gardners' new IFS. In the addition to having
all this hi-tech i am hoping to have the old school look with bench seats etc. Has anyone successfully installed a VS column shift for the 4 speed auto?
If so, any and all information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

There have been a couple of column shifts done that I know of but can't remember where to find them... I am sure someone will be able to steer us in the right direction.

I think a cable set up is looking like the only option.
To save me from re tracing the trials and errors of others....
I'm just going to sit tight and wait to hear of someone who has had success or know"s who to talk to.

Talk to Pat Gardner (V6 Conversions) they only use the Commodore column, not sure if they convert to cable or not though.

Thanks Mat. Ive had a chat with Pat. He does have a kit for column auto.... but it is costly due to the amount of labour to fabricate a seldom ordered conversion.

Wow mate, this is exactly what I am doing. I have found a VS column auto from a ute and going to modify to suit. My bloody wife is insisting I make it look standard but yet to work out the indicator stalk.  Thus far I have come to the conclusion I must use a cable.
As far as the diff thing is concerned I went and bought an LSD and then bought a whole VS to use the short axle from the diff in that. Cheaper than shortening an axle....

I fitted a VY commodore motor and auto into a WB ute, Used the column shift and used a one Hyundai Excel manual gear selector cable, made a bracket on the gearbox and one for the firewall (only as i had the parts lying around).
the selector needle on the dash wasn't exactly correct but close enough when going towards 1st as there is a extra gear,  but that didn't worry me.

Random, Not keen on an excel part in my car though. The wiper water pump and the interior light both have Ford stamped on em....

Hello all, just found out there is an inexpensive cable kit for column auto conversions.
Being a generic item- it has multiple settings and adjustments to accommodate.
