Title: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: slim on April 28, 2003, 10:05:18 PM I need to know if Fc thermostat housing Any Ideas (LOWER , NOT top) came with a plug or no plug . I ask because I have 2 with identical part numbers , both for Fc and one has a plug in it , the other has not even got a hole for the plug , A chap wants to get one sent to QLD, but which is the original FC one.

I'm not sure, but I think the housing with the plug in it is FB-EK-EJ. Can anyone else shed any light on this?? Hope this helps? Cheers, Graham. Title: Re: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: FCwagon on April 30, 2003, 09:32:48 AM G'day Slim,
My reckoning is the one with the plug is FC. FB or later heads had 2 holes/plugs in the top of the cylinder head for temp light sender and heater outlet (if fitted) with the other heater outlet from the water pump. cheers, leigh Title: Re: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: FE_UTE on April 30, 2003, 10:26:14 AM G'day Slim
My FE is a 58 and has one with a plug, I have another FE complete motor that is an earlier number and it does not have a plug The housing for the FB/EK is a different number and does not have a plug Hope this confuses you too Gary Title: Re: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: mcl1959 on April 30, 2003, 10:44:08 AM The housing without the plug is FB/EK as stated, but they were made with the casting shape where the plug would be so that they could be used for all models as a replacement part by drilling and tapping to suit the early models.

The small plug is FX/FJ and the big plug is FE/FC but there may be a grey area where the changeover is. The large plug is the same size as the plugs in the head. Ken Title: Re: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: Effie C on April 30, 2003, 10:47:20 AM Slim
In my parts cattledog (It only goes up to FB) the housing from 48 to FC is the same unit and they list the 3/8" plug to go in the hole. The FB is a different housing and does not have the plug listed for it. Hope this helps John M PS you may be able to tell from your 48 to HR cattledog if the latter EK EJ had the plug listed for them. Title: Re: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: Jockster on April 30, 2003, 10:55:04 AM Slim I have an original GMH FE parts catalogue, it shows two thermostat housings, one without the plug, the other with the plug has (heater option) in brackets next to it.
Hope that helps Jock Title: Re: Grey FC thermostat Housing (correct one) Post by: EJ_Dave on May 09, 2003, 02:29:27 AM I can't be definitive on this but my EJ which is very original, as well as several others I have seen, have thermostat housings without the plug. I have since changed mine for one that does have a plug that I got from an FB or EK.
I suspect that both types were fitted to EJ's and earlier models. I only changed my thermostat housing because I couldn't get one of the plugs out of the head when I fitted my heater.
