Title: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on April 20, 2003, 07:59:40 AM Hi all
Well I made the huge trip from Ipswich to the Gold Coast this morning. Unfortunately I could not take my FC, she is having a little brake problam at present, and I am still awaiting the arrival of some much needed parts. Well back to the event at hand. Everyone met in the carpark accross from Isle of Palms at approx 0900h (9am). It was a great site to see so many Fe's & FC's in one gathering. Then we made a short journey to the RSL carpark to meet up with people who had stayed else where. At about 1030h we departed and went on the morning cruise. I wish I had stuck myself somewere along the road to take some photo's as the parade of cars went past. It looked great from the rear watching them going around the corners one by one and weaving through the streets. People stopped what they were doing to watch and wave. I think some people stopped to reminisce about the good old days. I know my mother inlaw does every time she sees my car. She tells me she has some great memories of those good old days. ;) :o The trip took about 45 minutes and I think was enjoyed by all. Then the day was pretty casual affair. We play a few games, looked at and talked about cars. Then looked at more cars and talked about more cars. For lunch we had a sausage sizzle and talked about more cars. After lunch we entered into a little interstate competition. Then as we do looked at and talked about more cars. At about 1400h (2pm) every one started to depart back to their hotels for some much needed rest prior to the evening festivities. About 6 or 7 cars participated in the 2 hour cruise which departed the show grounds at about 1430h (2:30pm) and that is when I departed and came home. I will be out of bed early again in the morning and making that very long and boring trip. I will take my digital camera with me and take some photo's for you poor souls who can not be here with us. Cheers Jim Title: Re: Day 1 FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: zulu on April 20, 2003, 10:11:21 AM Hello Jim, I'm Gary, from Penrith NSW, thanks for the report, look forward to hearing more.

Title: Re: Day 1 FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on April 21, 2003, 09:31:48 AM Some people suggested we have this car out front on the cruise. I think it needed a coffin, white ribbon and some flowers. I think that would have made a great sight and would be in the easter spirit.

Title: Re: Day 1 FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on April 22, 2003, 06:31:16 AM Now Now Boys. I had a great weekend and was sharing to great turnout with those unfortunate people who could not attend.
If you want to winge bleet and moan about the judges and decisions made go and see the commitee. I do feel sorry for those people who were given a prize only to have it taken away. But I will say that the comittee acted quickly and the scores were recalculated. We are all human and errors do happen. Thats my say so if you do not like it to bad. If you want to cry on here do it on your own page or in the rants raves and dummy spits column. All the photos look great, I like the under bonnet shot of my old girl (yellow and black). She was the one parked beside "Effie C". I would appreciate a zip file also to add to the ones I took. For the forum watchers !!! An update, poor old "Effie C" had gearbox trouble at Nerang on the way up, I can vouch for the serious growls, well $1400.00 later he has found a repairer on the Gold Coast who will have it finished tomorrow and he should be heading for home Saturday !! I dont know what happened but his luck has rubbed off. I headed home for Canberra on Monday morning with a pickup at Grafton required. I will also remember the big Avacado at Tweed as this is where "old bess" or "shiny bits" as "Effie C" calls it decided to seize the motor. Who would of thought after 1000 miles of trouble free motoring she would turn her toes up. I have a serious post mortem to do on the motor, will let you know what happened. On a lighter night I rate the NRMA "PLUS" on the insurance a real bonus, they picked Bess up and took her to Murwillumbah and locked her in a compound, and she will be trucked ungracefully to my door on Monday. NRMA organised a hire car (FORD I might add) and I will get home tommorrow. Now is a chance to do the motor the way I wanted as the previous owner had done this one. It was a great rally and good to meet users of the Forum I seriously recommend you try to make it to Jindabyne in 2005 and remember the fun is being there not who wins the trophys Cheers ChrisB 8) Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on April 23, 2003, 09:06:40 AM Hi Chris
Sorry to here about Bess. May be you and John should have brought that FB I told you about. You could have had the Motor John the Gearbox and I could have taken the rest off your hands for free. I need all those Nasco bits for my car. All up it would have only cost $650. I hope to catch up with you Bess Jon and Effie C in 2005. It was the next best thing to being there. If you don't make "guru" there should be a special category for you..."Legend". Cheers , Mike. Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: stevo56 on April 25, 2003, 09:24:43 AM Hi all,
Firstly I like to say that "hey, it was great to see most of the cars here on the the coast". I missed most of you on the Saturday, as you were all leaving. (I got there extremely late, DON'T ask). I met Phil and a couple of others anyway. I dragged my missus out of the house on Sunday to see the show'n'shine at Curumbin but Murphy's law prevailed and it rained. (Bloody typical) Lastly, I offered the use of my yard and house to anyone who needed it and included my phone number etc. I now find out that someone (Efee-C?) shit itself and needed $1400 worth of repairs. Well I would have loved to help you but as that old Telstra ad stated "Why didn't ya call" I'd have helped you gratis. Goodluck and good riddance. (In case you're wondering, yes Steve is 9/10 pissed whilst writing this.) :P Sorry to hear of your problem, but MATE I feel mis-used. We COODA piched parts of the FE to get you home and replaced them rather than pay BIG bucks NOWWWWW. Sirry ,10/10 pissed but wouda helped you. Steve Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: mcl1959 on April 26, 2003, 08:57:58 AM Steve, dont be annoyed. No one expects to break down and like others I read your kind offer of assistance before the nats but omitted to record your number. If I had broken down later on after the nats I would have been in the same position. Just having to pay for repairs wherever they could be found.
Please don't think that everybody ignored you, as you sound like a genuine guy who would do anything to help. It's just that if a guy didn't write your number down, it's too late when your sitting beside the road with a car that wont go. We all do appreciate your offer and I look forward to catching up with you at a nats sometime. Ken Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on April 26, 2003, 09:03:16 AM Ret has put this pic under "Other Photo's" so go and check it out if you want to know who is who in the zoo.

I have arrived back in the land of snow and ice and just love the pictures you have posted. What a pity it only happens every second year. The FE FC Faternity needs to get together more often. Thanks for all your efforts and look forward to catching up again John M Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: Effie C on April 28, 2003, 03:07:23 AM Quote Lastly, I offered the use of my yard and house to anyone who needed it and included my phone number etc. I now find out that someone (Efee-C?) shit itself and needed $1400 worth of repairs. Steve G'Day Steve As Ken has stated read the offer before hand but at the time forgot all about it, did not have your number with me and Telstra does not list "stevo56" in their phone book. The total cost to rebuild the box ( New main shaft, input shaft and idler shaft, bearings and "Recon" the syncro's), new slave cyclinder and to supply and fit new clutch plate rebuilt pressure plate and to machine the flywheel $1270.00. 12 month 20 thou K warranty (I wonder which will come first). All this within the holiday period. Thanks to all that offered and thanks to the FB-EK club person 'GP' rang as he recommended GABBA GEARBOXERS who did the job. I can now also recommend them to all. I even tried to buy Ron Cooks car,if anyone has his contact number I am still interested in buying it. You would not believe it I had Stevo's number in my mobile and his offer did not even enter my mind. I was ment to meet up with him so he could look at my speedo (I have fixed it now, It is amazing what coke can be used for) As for the 2 year thing, I think the clubs NSW,QLD & ACT should organise a yearly run to meet up at a central location for one long weekend some time between now and the next nationals. I also hope you get a life time of miles out of your gearbox before it need a rebuild again. As for Rons Car, We have club meeting on Wednesday I will ask him for you. I think his number is listed in the QLD club page ?? Hope to catch up with you soon. I have sent you one of my Zips, if you want the rest pm me. were all the cars there "show cars" ? i.e. if I turned up in my sunday driver would I be embarrased ? Cheers Yackboy Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: Effie C on April 29, 2003, 10:19:46 AM Yackboy
There where more streeters than "Show Cars", ifyou enjoy driving your car you would fit in just fine. John M Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on April 29, 2003, 10:47:19 AM I will have to agree with you there John. I think if you have it flaunt it street or show its all about the car, the club and the ppl who one thing in common.
We all LOVE our FE or FC no matter if it is a daily driver or a show car. These cars were made for driving. You would not be embarrased. You would have had a great weekend. Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: HAD 708 on May 01, 2003, 07:54:07 AM What a fantastic effort in loading and showing all those photos from the suuny state nationals,it was a fantastic time and as usual truly tremendous to see so many FE and FC models together. For those guys who were not able to make it to the Coast at easter book yourself in at Jindabyne for 2005 as i have done and you will be able to see it all in the flesh and experience all that the FE/FC Car Clubs of Australia can offer you. Do it now and don,t miss out for the 2005 Nationals.

Isn,t it great to see so many different versions of the FE and FC model cars irrespective of whether you like stocks or modifieds and haven,t the photos turned out well - a job well done indeed, I think being there at the Nationals makes you appreciate all the more the quality of these photos and the good time shared by everyone who was there along with the high standard of many of the cars that took part in this nationals. I dont know ? maybe one day I will get a chance to have my FC looking as good as some of you other guys ?? Russell Bates ( FCPV and I dont have one either ) Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on May 06, 2003, 06:58:41 AM Come on people I have set a personal milestone of 2000+ views.
I will have more photo's to add real soon. PS I could not find the other disc full of digital photo's. Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: ChrisB on May 06, 2003, 12:14:58 PM Re Old Shiny Bits,
as people know my old girl came home ungracefully on the back of a truck, The motor is out and apart now and not a pretty sight, when you read this you need to know, this motor had been built by the previous owner and has only done 2800 miles, 1100 of which was done going to QLD, she did the timing gear within the first month or so of getting her, now this, The findings were, gudgeons worn, all conrod bearings badly spun with 4 and 5 that bad they had joined themselves together and blocked the crank journals, the bore and head look good as does the main bearings, they dont have any marks on them, suprisingly. the oil pump appears to have been the cause of the trouble because the relief valve piston was very hard to get out and appeared to be gummed up at the bottom, the dissy was engaged with the oil pump and still driving the pump. This goes to show what some people call a rebuilt motor, it had standard bearings and at first glance appears that the bore is standard also. Ah well it was the last thing I had not done mechanically and now is the time to get the head done for unleaded. Is there such a thing as a post rally hard luck trophy !! Since getting home, PC has died and I have lost all my photos and Jims photos, printer has died, video died and to top it off I got caught by the radar the other night. I now have another PC so if you could send those photos again Jim I would appreciate it Soldiering on Cheers ChrisB 8) Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: ChrisB on May 06, 2003, 12:18:23 PM PS
Does any one have an oil pump rebuild kit or a NOS oil pump, having trouble sourcing these and any help would be appreciated, all the usual places dont have them ChrisB 8) Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: graham_fuller on May 06, 2003, 08:50:15 PM Chris,
Sorry to here about all your misfortunes.Apparently oil pump parts are hard to get as Wayne had trouble when his motor was rebuilt.Do you know how your oil pressure was as mine is good(wilsonia gauge). But sounds like I should keep my eye on it as mine has gudgeon knock. But people tell me thats standard for grey motors. Cheers, Graham Title: Re: FE/FC Big Day Out (Nationals) Post by: FC0058 on May 07, 2003, 05:08:17 AM Hi All
I recieved my still camera photo's back today so keep an eye out for some more editions to this string. I also recieved my new number plates today Blue & White, I think they will look much better than the others which were green and gold. I have a memory like a sieve, was it graham or chrisb that wanted the zips, all I remember is that your PC gave up the ghost and now you have a new one and would like a copy. Please pm or email me your request, then stand by and keep your inbox clear as you will need about 4000kb of space to take them all. Thought I would take you on a trip down memory lane, but all the links have gone so no photo's. I will have a tidy up of my photo bucket album and maybe start another thread as this one is way to long. Cheers Jim |
