Title: Fuel Tank Repair - Sydney
Post by: RET on February 13, 2012, 06:46:55 PM
An enquiry on behalf of a friend and ex-club member...

Steve has a Chrysler hearse with a fuel tank that is rusting inside that needs repairing. Does anybody had any tips on places that still do this kind of work? They seem a bit hard to find nowadays. And a replacement tank is not a likely option.

Something in south-western Sydney (Bankstown/Liverpool) would be particularly handy, but further afield OK. Job needs to be done in a bit of a rush.

Any assistance gratefully accepted.

cheers

Maybe buy the motorbike tank repair kits it lines it with a 2 pack resin or something like that.

Hi RET,

If the tank in question needs to be coated internally, go to the net and type in (Permanent painted coatings home) which will bring up POR 15 fuel tank repair kits.
I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I have used the kits on a car fuel tank & a motorcycle tank both over a year ago and have not had any problems with either of them.

 Andy,

I've been lucky with most of my tanks, just took them to my local radiator place, St Marys Radiator Repair, Great Western hwy St Marys

He puts em in a bath for a while, not sure if it's a pickle or not, then if they leak when he puts air through it, he solders them up.

Depending on the age of the Hearse, there is this joint, I think they go back to '67

maybe able to land one in Aus in a timely fashion

"Better tell him to get one with a silk lining next time"

I used the POR-15 on the Fj fuel tank (which was quite rusted inside) and it worked a treat. $125

coincedently,i helped my mate coat his xp wagon tank on the weekend cause it was leakin and blue slip guy picked it.we used kbs coatings, think it was 115 bucks with postage.it was a three step process and was very impressed.
their catalogue is amazing........alot like por i guess.

their no is1800809036or 0249190211.email sales@kbs-coatings.com.au
they are at taylors beachnsw2316.
mate the leaks can be used with mesh like fibreglass on the outside and painted over with the leftovers.we only had pinholes but covered the outside aswell .it is a flexible epoxy in a sense .........bloody amazing 8)

Wouldn't it be nice if you could waddle down the road or to the keyboard and get a nice shiney new petrol tank for our FE-FC's

Gary

PS they are probably LHD tanks anyway
