Title: front and rear quarter windows Post by: fe350chev on November 28, 2011, 06:41:41 PM Hi
Im trying to get the front and rear qtr windows out. Is this a bitch of a job or am I just dumb? Be careful how you answer this :-\ What a bugger, like are those chrome surrounds just clipped in like the other felted ones or is there something im doing wrong, have removed the bolt from inside and everything else came off ok. Seems no way of doing it without damaging? Cheers in advance. Title: Re: front and rear quarter windows Post by: mcl1959 on November 28, 2011, 09:29:00 PM Fronts
remove the sliding door glass and the bailey channel at the top of the door frame remove the self tappers along the sloping edge of the door frame - could be 2 or 3 open the window & lift up the rubber seal below the 1/4 vent handle and find / clean 2 tiny little self tappers removing these can be easy or hard depending on the amount of rust :P remove nut from the bottom of the window runner and if possible remove the bolt as well Not essential to remove the bolt but you will have to push it in to get the frame out Carefully prise the window channel out from under the frame at the top of the door & remove working on the inside of the door prise the frame towards the rear of the car with a screw driver working evenly between the corner and the top The wind deflector will fall out once the frame is loosened When the frame is loose it should be easy to manouvre the frame out of the door Rears remove the sliding door glass and the bailey channel at the top of the door frame remove nut from the bottom of the window runner and if possible remove the bolt as well Not essential to remove the bolt but you will have to push it in to get the frame out carefully drill out the 2 rivets that hold the top of the window channel to the door frame Carefully manouvre the channel out of the door frame This part is tricky - VERY carefully prise the window towards the front of the car with a screwdriver working alonng the side and bottom Once it is loose it will come out easily Ken Title: Re: front and rear quarter windows Post by: fe350chev on November 28, 2011, 09:47:33 PM Thanks immensely for your considered reply mate.
I think the self tappers are what i have missed and at the back i wanted confirmation of the drilling process and which way to prize for each. Once again thats so much for your time. I was going to do a quick "get it on the road" job for the taxi but now that all the interior is out and door trims are off and i bought my window winder tool, it seems worthwhile blasting all of the inner and runners of the doors and do it justice as they are good doors and this will keep them preserved for years to come. I need to keep telling myself that the FC is a quick non rotisserie job but the FE is a full floor replacement and full underbody refab but I get carried away. Feels like Ill never finish either of them :P Title: Re: front and rear quarter windows Post by: fe350chev on December 01, 2011, 10:39:32 AM Got all of them done last night with little drama or damage, thanks Ken. Do most people replace them or is it best to use the originals if your doing a restoration? The doors are now down at the blaster getting the inners and hard to reach places done.
