Title: Very early sports steering wheel Post by: FC229 on November 17, 2011, 10:16:40 PM Hi there,
I have an old sports steering wheel which takes the original FC horn button. Planning to restore it, and while I always assumed it would have had a leather grip, it has occurred to me that it may have been timber?? Can anyone help me with any photos or other details re these wheels, I don't believe I have seen another one, Thanks David. I had a quick look on the wheel but could not see any branding
From what I found searching the net they made both leather / vinyl wheels and timber, so once I get the wire that is wrapped around it off I might post more pics to see if I can get more clues as to which it may have been. The car was originally from Vic, so that also makes sense. I bought it with Dad in the early 70's, and the wheel had already lost it's covering, which is the main reason I always assumed it to have had a soft cover. I assumed the wire/ tubing around the steel to have been packing under the upholstery. I will list more info under the project cars heading when I get more time, this was a bit of a trial to test uploading photos and getting into the swing of the forum. |
