Title: Hand brake removal Post by: mjwfc on September 19, 2011, 04:02:27 PM New to the forum although have viewed many times. I am in the process of stripping the car and am having trouble with the hand brake cable. The pully it runs through just after coming throuhg the fire wall. I have removed the split pin assuming the pully would just come off but to no avail. I have tried some brut force with a large screw driver but it won't come off. Is there any tricks to getting this off so i can pull the cable out as i don't want to wreck it.

You should be left with the shaft and the guard which you remove with a spanner. Try twisting the wheel and pulling upwards - maybe has a build up of grime.
