Title: Hand brake removal
Post by: mjwfc on September 19, 2011, 04:02:27 PM
New to the forum although have viewed many times. I am in the process of stripping the car and am having trouble with the hand brake cable. The pully it runs through just after coming throuhg the fire wall. I have removed the split pin assuming the pully would just come off but to no avail. I have tried some brut force with a large screw driver but it won't come off. Is there any tricks to getting this off so i can pull the cable out as i don't want to wreck it.

mjwfc, once you have removed the split pin, the wheel should come straight off. You should be left with the shaft and the guard which you remove with a spanner. Try twisting the wheel and pulling upwards - maybe has a build up of grime.

Had the same problem with mine. spray wd40 over the shaft and use multi grips to turn the wheel back & forth til it releases. Regards Jim

Same here ... get a bigger hammer !!!

Actually, used the spray and multigrips method and it was ok ...
