Title: Fitting 253 308 cast iron standard headers any luck?
Post by: perth_ute on August 25, 2011, 06:06:02 PM
I have got the 253 sitting in the engine bay and it is tight. I was hoping to use the cast iron standard headers mostly to keep the cost down and I have a complete exhaust setup. My problem is I don't think it is going to fit. Has anyone had experience fitting them without hitting the side subframe?

Not sure if this is any help but I helped a mate with a similar problem with a 302 Windsor in a 36 Ford ute, I machined the gasket surface of the manifold at an angle, this then moved the exhaust pipe flange much closer to the block which gave us the clearance we needed to get past the steering box, also had to modify the holes a bit.

Not sure how much room you have,  ???  maybe post some photos with a couple of dimensions, some one has probably done it before.
Good Luck
Mick

They dont fit... been there tried that.

old style heads, different, exhausts, EFI heads, different manifolds.

2 choices... custom or pre-fab custom.

I was afraid you were going to say that! Any ideas on a simple design header to get me over the line?
