Title: Bailey Channels Again and More Post by: KFH on August 20, 2011, 09:41:02 PM The door glass etc has been put off until last but now it has come that I have to fit them. I have searched and cannot find the answers.
1) When removing the bailey channels from the dividing uprights between the main and 1/4 glasses I found they are held in position with a few small spikes to prevent them moving up or down. What is the accepted method of replacing these with new ones. Do you try to hold them in position with the spikes or will a little bit of silicon behind them be adequate? 2) What is the recommended sequence of putting the bailey channels back in ie sides first then the top. I would expect the one on the dividing channel be put in position before putting this in the door. 3) The original rubber seal at the rear of the front 1/4 glasses are attached to a removable metal strip. Do you remove this strip and glue the the new rubber straight onto the channel? Sorry for all the questions. 2. Because you want the chrome strips to all line up nicely, you install the dividing channel first then put the bailey channel in, dry at first, cutting and trimming the chrome strips to get them perfect. Put the top in first, then the sides. I usually cut the chrome strips with a 1mm cut off wheel so they don't get squashed, then file the sides carefully to clean them up. 3. Scrap the metal strip, the rubber glues direct to the channel. Put the glue in then shut the glass to hold it in the right position.
