Title: rear diff problem
Post by: dwortho on June 09, 2011, 06:58:34 PM
Hi all
decided to change the rear diff on my fe ute, but up came a problem the universal joint fits the diff but not the prop shaft.
diff is a 1 inch location and the prop shaft is 15/16th.the joint is 1 inch all round.
I have got a fe sedan which i'm restoring and already swapped the diff,so i tried the prop shaft and it fits, but is that the right way or is there a universal joint that will do the job.

yours

You could always replace the pinion yoke with the one from the old diff provided the outside flange to seal diameter and spline is the same, then you just need to get the smaller universal joint.

When i changed to a later model centre all i did was change the rear UNI to a EH one so it ran U bolts not a flanged end?

Thanks for your help guys, but found out that the one out of my sedan is alright to use.
apparently some early ute's had parts from the fx.
