Title: Fitting bucket seats to FC ute
Post by: oldholden1959 on May 13, 2011, 04:19:49 PM
I'm putting VN commodore berlina bucket seats in my FC ute.  The car is gun metal grey, and interior is all trimmed and all finished off......used the trim from the berlina rear seat for the inner door trims and special arm rests to match the grey berlina buckets.......looks pretty good if i do say so myself ;)

Just hoping to find out the best way to do the seat mount modifications.  Anyone know of a prefab bracket or do I just fiddle and trial and error myself?  As you all will know, the trick is to get them nice and low but the inner hump in the floor can cause some height challenges.  Can I cut the inner slide rail either side of the hump and weld in an angle bracket in the middle to go over the top maybe?

I have a 4 speed Aussie with floor shift and a cut down VC commodore tunnel to give the original commodore hole for the shifter, centre hand brake and even inner seat belt stalk mountings.  The seats look to fit ok sitting in there, just a matter of making the brackets for the rails to fit to the floor.

Thought I'd ask the question before I got stuck into it too far.  Any help/comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

Gday David

These can be a pain, Some blokes are flattening their floor using the whole donor front floor with the seat mounts in it as well

Below are my attempts at doing the seats with the original floor, get the seat where you want it by packing it up on each corner, then remove and measure the packing and make a bracket to suit

1st pic is using brackets, but after I did this I realised I could have used square or rectangular metal section

This job I used rectangular metal section

FC427 has buckets in his ute & can probably give you more clues

Cheers, Gary

Thanks for that Gary.....especially the pics, they really do say 1000 words!  I like your work in the first pic so might follow that concept.  It will just depend on the finished seated height position i guess, as i'm worried they will be too high.  Wanted to get them nice and low, as the seats have built in height adjustment anyway.

I was toying with the idea of cutting the inner running rail or even passing it through the hump in the floor with a slot either side somehow.

Thanks for your reply.  Will see how I go.
