Title: Turbo 700 Transmission
Post by: EffCee on April 10, 2011, 12:58:16 PM
I am looking to put a TH 700 behind a small block chev, I want a manual kickdown and was looking at the early cable operated TH 700 as I would prefer a 4 speed auto.
Will the Turbo 700 Transmissions from a Commodore, ie those with a cable kickdown, rather than the electronic 4l60e, bolt up to a chev, ie do they have the chev bolt pattern to the transmission to the block. Are the V6 or V8 different?

Is there a specific TH 700 that I need from a  specific model car. If so what transmission from what cars do I need?

Thanks in avance

Keith

They are a three speed transmission, ideally I want a four speed as stated in my original comment.

Keith

I am fitting a 304 with a T700.

Both out of a VN V8. Not sure whether the VP is electric kickdown though.

Cheers

Does the turbo 700 gearbox fit into the auto ek tunnel or do ya have to modify the firewall area or put even bigger tunnel in?

Another option is to bolt and electronic overdrive. To a 2 or 3 speed.

There are a few other ones. B&M to 1
I thing domator (in usa) do 1.

700 are a good box but very expensive to get them to take any serious power or abuse,
I had mine modified with merc. and some camro parts to make to handle 400hp, (just over 3k to build)

If it a stock 350 and drive correctly there's no resion a stock t700r won't handle it, and last the test of time,

the vn and vp's are manual kickdown. t700's are everywhere, who cares now that the vn's are being wrecked everywhere if it stuffs up, just put another secondhand in. im only talking about a stockish 350. driven as a cruiser, even having a lsd borg warner ass end will be ok if driven properly with an auto. they are everywhere now for 5-700 bucks the 700's.

Our van has v6 chev with t700.  I put the engine way back to clear the chev starter for the rear mounted rack.  This required about 75mm recess in the firewall.  The car already had "repro" ek tunnel fitted.  The T700 fitted without any mods to the tunnel but there is no much room left.  I have had three T700s built.  Standard they cost about $1500-2000.  The non standard cost about $3300 to build but can take 600 bhp.  The rebuild costs probably dont differ much between autos.

The 30% overdrive is great on trips.  We get between 25 to 32 mpg (that is old car speal) depending on how we drive.  V8 VN/VP boxes are getting a bit scarce now and so one of our t700s is a USA import.

Thanks NOS, Butler, whatever your name is  ??? ??? ??? :D :D :D

Ummm, Ill get it all in eventually and once it spits anything, then the all out good gear will go in, but not an engine, that will be done without any shortcuts. Knowing me ill probably do a full rebuild of the box as well  :P :P :P ::) ::) ::)
