Title: Torana Rack, Drop Stubs and Big Brakes.
Post by: Ol_Girl_58 on March 25, 2011, 05:01:03 PM
Hi guys,

So this is my plan. A Torana rack mounted onto my HR front end, drop stubs with Commodore or Hoppers brakes. I'll be running 15" wheels with custom offset.

Is there anything that I should be wary of? I have spoken with Rod from Rod's Racks, who says that there'll be no problems with the stubs working with the rack. I was thinking that there could be potential clearance issues with tie rod ends etc.

Has anybody done something similar - and if so, what should I look out for?

Kind regards,

Ol_Girl_58

The only problem will be if the wheels are very heavily dished inwards. (like current Commodore) The rim may then hit the tie rod end or the grease nipple on top of the upper ball joint. If you went up to 16 inch rims then clearance issues will go away.

Thanks Ken.

Wouldn't the issues go away if I had 15" wheels with a custom, negative offset?

... or if I used HQ brakes rather than Commodore?

yes & yes - that's why I said that the only problem will be if you have no dishing in the wheels.
Deeper dished rims give other issues such as hitting the mudguards on full lock
