Title: Squeaky/Rattling brakes
Post by: PeteR on March 05, 2003, 07:11:38 AM
Hi,

The Old girl's got a terrible rattling sort of squeak coming from the front end as I cruise down the main drag (on the way to work, of course!  ;) ) If I put a little bit of pressure on the brakes the noise disappears. It's a HR front end, new pads, machined discs, "rattle" pins are there. The wheel bearings have been checked and everything else seems as good as gold.

Any ideas?

Pete  :)

Peter
The original HR Discs had a steel shim that went between each brake pad and caliper piston to minimise rattle and squeal. Even with these fitted they sometimes still played up. I suggest using a good anti squeal /anti rattle glue specifically for disc brakes which usually stops the problem by glueing the pads to the piston and providing a rubberised cushion. Both Loctite and PBR put out good products for this purpose.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Jock

Thanks again Jock, I'll try the stuff you recommended.

(I hope I don't drive you round the twist before I get this car sorted out!)
