 :o :o

Blok,

I just had a look at your photos, in particular the rotors and calipers ( #9 ). It seems you have done what I did on my wagon. The calipers appear to be on the wrong side. The bleeder valve needs to be at the top, otherwise you won't be able to bleed the air out. Just swap sides with them.

Cheers Rusty

The sedan looks much better than the ute that you had started with, although the ute looks great as a BBQ.

I hope that you have better luck with the sedan, at least you will be able to use all the bits and pieces from the ute

Thanks guys I'm really enjoying this build ,every thing is starting to come together although i still have along way to go ,still have to decide what colour I'm going with ,it will be a blue but darker with an off white roof at this point got my lowering blocks in the mail today and still waiting for shackle rubbers to turn up,need to weld in place the engine mounts and then paint the engine bay  also need to sort the gearbox mount and hand brake mechanism enough to keep me occupied for a while,More pics shortly

Got some more work done today between showers made the crossmember for the gearbox mount

I used the mount of an old corona the 4 speed gear box is the same as the 5 speed celica so grafted the mount onto the crossmenber and it came up a treat

Blok  Nice work  ;D you could have used a HR sway bar and turned it upside down and put a scallop in the outrigger and weld in a half round for reinforcement  ......FC427 ....

Also repositioned the engine mounts on the HR front end ,i had to raise them up so the gilmer belt drive would clear the swaybar

I had a similar problem with the metal fan not clearing the sway bar, someone pointed out that an EK swaybar has a dip in it, swapped them and it's all good.

Hey blok, I used the very same heater great little unit. I mounted mine vertically under the dash with the two pipes coming through the firewall at about the height of the head. For hoses use heater hose from a commodore vh I think. These have a 90 deg bend and reach the water pump with ease. You may find you will need to use spacers to bring the heater body away from the inside firewall otherwise the pipes will foul on the engine.

As far as demister setup I had someone make up an aluminum box with two 50mm outlets at the front and two smaller approx 25mm at the back for demister hose..

Let me know if you need some pics and I will see what I can dig up.

Dean

Hi Wayne hows that Ute of yours going ,mate the 6mm plate is heaps strong enough and gives you plenty of clearance and easy enough to install I just cut the shape out of cardboard and my mate put it through the roller ,i used a longer piece than was needed so i could bend and manipulate the curve if needed

Well spotted, actually swimming pool suction hose. But I did use vacuum cleaner ends for the demister vents  ;), to switch between demister and heat I just turn the heater vents to closed, simply redirecting the heat. Simple but works.

Post by: BLOK on March 13, 2011, 10:15:02 PM
I used a 6 inch grinder with a thin cutting wheel onthe curve I have the blade just cutting through the material and go slow so I can get around the bend ,a smaller grinder would be better or just square it off

earlier in the thread you were after demister hose?

I stumbled across minisport.. apparently minis use 32mm hose.

So for std demisters you can use mini hose... not sure about the available lengths but it's a start.

Hi Blok,

Does that flaring tool do the double flare?

If so where did you purchase it from?

Where did you purchase the tube?

Lots of questions sorry!!

Maco...

you can get a double flaring tool, benders on ebay.com.au  and either steel , alloy tube or even copper if your state alloys ( in rolls ) on ebay.com from the USA, the tube is very cheap, i'm going to get some myself ...if you look on ebay.com.au you can get a complete set of multi-size benders and double flaring tool in 1 sale  just type in double flaring tool and the list goes on...enjoy your choices hehehe  ???

i have a single flaring tool but might need to purchase the same set as i mentioned

happy flaring and bending...but remember the golden rule " measure twice, cut once saves a lot of mistakes "

Did you have to install a folding steering wheel, heater fan ( de-mister ) seat belts like you mentioned (Are they all round ? )..HR front like you have are a few things ive heard needed to be done if the motor size is over a 186... ( or maybe not a need in your state ) where did you get the seat belt pillar bolts ?

for all your metal fabs, i gather you get your metal from your local steel shop ? is there a particular type metal you order or look for also is there a special formular you use to workout the gauge needed for each fabrication you make, or is it just experience over time has revealed what gauge is strong enough for each part's need ???

gr8 work BLOK...
The handbrake system you have in your pics is been very helpful for my handbrake system, your's and Ken "THE GURU " HAVE HELPED ME SO MUCH IN UNDERSTANDING WHAT I HAVE AND NEED TO HAVE

SO THANKX TO YOU BOTH... BLOK and mcl1959...... both very inspiring and helpful at the same time   :o

Yes have to put in demister two speed wiper motor seat belts all round, the seatbelt bolts came out of on old corona that i wrecked ,i am a welder fabricator and i deal with metal on a daily bases but i still research and see what other people have done but i am also in contact with an engineer who ensures that i am on the right track ,

Title: Re: FE sedan project

Thankx BLOK,
so the Corona top pillar bolts fits straight into the FE pillar hole ( which mine has already been drilled out ..looks like a standard seat belt bolt hole from looking at other FE/FC cars ) ? i think i read somewhere that it's not a standard high tenstile bolt, it has an added shaft or something to allow the seat belt to swivel... is this right ? what top pillar bolt should i be looking for ??

thankx for taking the time to answer these questions, it's so helpfull to ask experienced restorers on here

cheers

FE 4 ME   :D

Title: Re: FE sedan project
Post by: BLOK on March 24, 2011, 11:14:58 PM
mate there isn't any hole in the pillar ,you have to start from scratch and install your own  best to use the search and punch in seat belt and see what comes up ,there are a couple of ways of doing this modification I have to research it myself ,but I'm fairly sure there would be minimum sizes that would have to be followed when using backing plates and installing the pillar bolts ,someone else may be able to enlighten us a bit more on this subject

Title: Re: FE sedan project
Post by: FE 4 ME on March 25, 2011, 12:09:33 AM
BLOK if it's any help for you,
My FE has had 12mm holes already drilled ( maybe to suit a 10mm bolt ) into the pillars to support the top point for the front seat belts... so clearly this FE had seat belts installed previously... i will have to check to see where i've seen the right type bolt..if i recall it's a 2 part nut and bolt, where the nut is like a barrel nut so when they bolt together both ends have a hex nut type finish but allows the seat belt to have enough play so it can move freely and not tighten up to a fixed point. where the internal has a machined finish to allow the seat belt hasp to swivel freely, opposed to a finished thread/bolt type

i hope this helps you...i think i might open a new thread in regards to the sourcing of the right top seat belt pillar bolt

let's see what comes our way

enjoy your project

Doing a bit of research on here regarding the seat belt installs, below is the link that has made things a little clearer and maybe will help you in your direction

http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,16691.0.html

i was sure this topic has had to come up many times before, i think i read on ebay somewhere some seller was selling seat beat bolts and was in the business for years doing installs, i haven't seen it for awhile now, might do some more reasearch regarding this, check my ended listings, but it was a fair while ago...see what comes our way from here and naturally research does open many doors as im sure you have found

see how we go

The seat belts that you are talking about are a period of sorts after market seat belt.

If you haven't painted the car then the neater way of doing the conversion is to weld into the pillars a plate with a tapped thread in it to accommodate the top of the retractable belt. A non retractable will also suit. I will take a couple of photos of the ute, but I think that there
is some pics somewhere on here. You get the safety of a belt without the unsightly hole drilled through the pillar.

Cheers

Blok  Yes it does weaken it, had the discusion with the engineer Why ??
